Long Panic Attacks

So I've been going through this panic attack type thing for a while now, almost all the time, non stop, not as severe as it could be, but my heart is always racing, my palms sweaty, ringing in my ears, very little sleep, paranoia, and I'm starting to lose touch with reality. The past and the present are becoming one, or fading, I think I'm losing it.

How long can this go on for?? Is it gonna become permanent???

Not sure if that is a panic attack vs. just good old severe anxiety mixed with some hypervigilence and paranoia.

All sounds pretty normal for unmanaged PTSD. Been there... felt what you are feeling for some years actually... near heightened state for a good couple of years from memory.

The majority of symptoms can be healed and completely removed from your life. Some may remain, some may return in the future or upon stressful events. The better you learn to manage and heal the past, the less you will have to worry about such things.

Focus on healing the past trauma first, and you will find a decrease in symptoms after the initial spikes due to facing the past.

In case you have not been seen by a doctor to assess the racing heart, it would a good idea to rule out something other than anxiety causing that symptom. Part of taking good care of yourself during the mental healing you are undertaking. Also, excessive caffeine can cause a fast heart rate.
Reach out for help, it is worth it.

FunkyMonkey, I had this also this last week, exactly as you describe. My PTSD is very symptomatic now with two jobs and lots of added stress, both good and bad, you could say. It's just more than I can really manage well. I have done deep, slow breathing and taken more walks, and this has helped temporarily. But the feeling comes back. When I start to think about work or the trauma, the ears ringing gets more noticeable.

I started taking Prozac, and this got very bad, so I stopped and feel more relaxed now this weekend.

Are you going through added stress now too?
