Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie around here.

Recently diagnosed with PTSD (even though most of "it" happened three years ago) so I've been looking into what it is exactly and finding good coping techniques.

I'm looking forward to 'meeting' and getting to know you guys and eventually feeling less like a freak.

Hi sticks and stones

Welcome to the forum.

You have come to a great place for help, support, advice and tons of information to help you move further forward on you journey of recovery.

Just to let you know I am in the UK too, so now you will feel less of a distance from all on here.

Take care and good luck.

Hi S&S,

Welcome to the forum. I haven't been here that long myself, and I have found some great information. This is a great bunch of folks who can all relate.

Hi Sticks and Stones, Welcome to the forum. :hello:

We trust that you will feel less like a freak because we are all in this PTSD thing together. It doesn't matter how we got here, but how we help each other to cope better.

Take your time, read our stories, learn coping mechanisms, and (as you can) get the frustrations out bit by bit as you challenge yourself to share your story.

From one freak to another - let's hope we can both drop that particular identity pretty darn soon. I am new, too. Welcome.

P.S. Fife Scotland is where my PTSD began. I am now in Vermont, USA. It's just kinda funny to see someone there, Sticks and Stones. I bought my ballgown in Dundee. Luv, Scaridycat, age 46

Hello Sticks and Stones!
Welcome to the forum!
I just wanted to tell you that next time you start to feel like you're a freak, remember that normal people are boring! That's what I always tell myself when I start to feel like a freak. :thumbs-up

Wow, thank you all for the very warm welcomes! I'm still learning the ropes around here so I'm sorry if I'm not doing the done thing.

I like the idea that normal people are boring! I do all these weird and wacky things (e.g. dissociate, flashbacks) which make you really appreciate how complex your brain is. I'm very lucky my housemate is studying for a Masters degree in Psychology so she helps me understand the theory behind what's going on in my brain.

Scaridy, I'm sorry to hear that yours started in Fife. I hope you still have some good memories of the place! I'm not very far away from Dundee at all.

Gotta run quickly and give my friend a hand taking some things to the bus stop... then I'll come back and join in some more.

Welcome to the fourm sticks-and-stones.

You really got me thinking if we are the freaks what happens when we think of others that seem freakier than us or what does weird think is weird? I hope you have come to see that we are just as normal as anyone else. We all have junk in the trunk and need to learn how to deal with it. Our brains just process it in some pretty interesting ways i.e... flashbacks and dissociate behaviors. I am new to the journey of how to deal with all this myself but that’s just it a journey to learn how to deal with things that is best for us and how we work. Hang in there and do not think yourself too much of a freak because you’re just like the rest of us.
