Can you imagine Australia—or any nation really—operating without a Ministry of Education? You will have the opportunity to watch what happens when United States Department of Education is eliminated.

Yes, if that agency has become toxic and useless, which I believe is what Trump is referring to. He is going to dismantle it and rebuild it, remove the toxic nonsense indoctrinating US kids with rhetoric and wokeness, and get a skeleton of itself back to doing the job it is meant to be doing - education of the mind. Reading, writing, learning relevant stuff that will help the child become a healthy thoughtful adult and letting the child decide what is right and wrong.
Our system got wonky here, cause kids see shit happening in the US and think they can pull it here too. Well... it was short lived, action got taken, disciplinary shit rolled down hill to the students who though they could become activists with no consequences. Still not perfect... shit happens. Just try and keep the toxic nonsense to a minimum and focus on educating the mind, that is what schools are for.

I believe the Uk operates with England having the DfE and wales/scotland/northern Ireland & separately ROI all having their own - and we are nowhere near the size of US states. I would presume something similar would happen in the US, that each state would have their own?
I would say though (and to be fair, I’m not online much so maybe I’m missing things) that nobody has much good to say about the American education system? Generally I see people complaining that it’s broken. That bad behaviour is out of control, that kids aren’t learning, that the ‘inclusion experiment’ has failed. Even lots of people blaming the election result on people being stupid & uneducated. So maybe rebuilding the system is required to improve it?

Based on the Democrats current methods, I think they want to make the kids dumber so they fall inline with their narrative. Easier to have stupid follow really bad policy and decisions blindly. Less effort and all.

I think, ultimately, both sides want similar things. Both sides want safety and prosperity for their children.
It’s easy to slide into mocking and disrespect, which shuts down conversation and the ability to hear each other, and fuels heightened emotions which, with ptsd on board, can become problematic very easily.
Ptsd also makes our brain lean towards cognitive distortions, especially when we’re talking about things that we have strong beliefs about, or things that are important to us. Statements made off the cuff, laden with cognitive distortions like mind-reading, may seem harmless. But they are inviting our brains to return to dysfunctional thinking styles that we have probably had to work hard to shut down.

The problem with Trump isn’t his ideas, it’s his execution or rather lack there of. Build a wall, Mexico will pay for it, that didn’t happen. Dismantle Obamacare and do something better, yeah that didn’t happen, reach out to dictators and broker communication that will help, yeah that didn’t happen. Instead we’re left with costly project that accomplish nothing. How much better spent would the wall money have been putting actual border patrols there or raising the funds then building the wall? Taking what he did out of the healthcare that was Obamacare only made insurance costs go up, healthcare costs go up and actual care go down. Did reaching out to Putin make it so he was easier to deal with? I’m betting Ukraine would say no. I know you’re going to say it’s because Biden was in charge, personally I think it’s because reaching out didn’t accomplish anything except appearances.
Dismantling the Department of Education is a prime example. Am I against this in theory, nope and I’ve been a teacher for 20+ years in a red state. BUT before you take something apart have a damn PLAN. Trumps plans begin and end with build or destroy, not what comes AFTER. No department of education? Okay where states get their funding? No national curriculum, okay how do we make sure kids who move between states are educated in a similar way? Every state has a department of education BUT people are more up in arms at our local department than our national one so how do you think it’s going to go? End of year testing which tests for proficiency of children comes along, I USED to be able to offer my class a reward for doing well. As a class, as an individual now state legislature has actually banned this. It is illegal for me to give my students a candy, pencil, tic tac for doing well. Anthony, you have children tell me that don’t need external motivation, tell me I shouldn’t be allowed to give kids who work hard a small treat. You want to know what’s behind it? Parents complained that their kid wasn’t getting the reward because they chose to not have their kid take the test. We aren’t talking a trip to Disneyland. The education system IS broken but fixing it isn’t dismantling the department of education. It might mean mass firing and rebuilding but that takes a plan and Trump isn’t in it for the long haul.
You say the problem is the liberals in my country. I’ve seen you be the kindest most gentle person when working with a sexual assault victim, I’ve admired many things you’ve said to people. You say states should be in charge. My question is if I told you I was raped and wanted an abortion would you tell me no? My uncle raped me in a state where even incest is not an exception to get an abortion, thank god I didn’t get pregnant but if I had would you still believe I don’t have a right to have one? That I should spend the next 9 months being reminded of it with every moment of the day? That I should either then give the child up for adoption or spend the rest of their lives being reminded of it? My aunt had a son and I always wondered who his dad was but for some reason it seemed untouchable. I finally asked my mom a few years ago and she told me it was from a man who raped her. Imagine being the kid who everyone knows was born not of love but of rape. That’s not liberal ideology it’s the ultra conservative.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions and we shouldn’t shove ours forward and make others agree to it…except that’s exactly what the conservatives did when they made it illegal for me to have control over my body.

I've never been pro-life. I am pro-woman gets to decide what she wants to do with her body. Her body, her choice.
I tend to look at everything, and pick and choose what sounds reasonable / common-sense. I don't blindly follow.

Well, Trump is 1 for 2 at the moment, getting Israel and Hamas to ceasefire a day before inauguration. Now just to get the other one across the line so the world can get some financial relief with oil and gas prices. I do love watching Biden/Harris announce this... they look so unhappy about it, whilst pretending they had something to do with it. Please let the door hit you both on the way out.
