Madness, Insanity & The World Wide Web

Nope. Rung them and got them to investigate... and whilst they agree the specific reason is valid and IAW their policy, the entire site is flagged as sensitive, so remarketing can't be used. I have adwords running, analytics and adsense, all are good... but can't use remarketing because it is health based website.

Restrictions that apply to sensitive categories in interest-based advertising
When creating remarketing lists or creating your ads, you can't use any sensitive information about site or app visitors. For the purposes of this policy, sensitive information includes:
  • interest or participation in adult activities (including alcohol, gambling, adult dating, pornography, etc.)
  • sexual behavior or orientation, such as sexual orientation inferred from a user's visit to a particular website
  • racial or ethnic information, such as from sites or apps that collect affirmative racial or ethnic identification from visitors
  • political affiliation (other than the public registration information of United States voters), such as from sites or apps that solicit or store people's affirmative political stances
  • trade union membership or affiliation, such as a user's visit to a trade union's site or app
  • religion or religious belief, such as from sites or apps that collect people's affirmative information on religion or religious beliefs
  • negative financial status or situation, such as information indicating that a user has a low credit rating or high debt load
  • health or medical information, such as from sites or apps that market to a specific health-related group
  • status as a child under 13
  • the commission or alleged commission of any crime, such as information indicating that a user has a criminal record

Health based sites are all evaluated individually, from what the guy told me on the phone today. Because this is a forum and members post their information, have profiles and blah blah blah... and because its health oriented, they deem it as sensitive.

You actually can't advertise anything in adwords, for example, that is medication / pharmaceutical unless you prove your relevance and licensing to that industry. I had something with a medicine name in it, and it got an error immediately, then directed me to the info as to whether or not I could apply for review of the word being used in my ad. Obviously I can't, as this isn't a medical / pharmaceutical company.

Finding some very strange laws as I go with some aspects of running health website. This was why I had to have a solid legal policy... stupid laws! :D :cautious: :coffee:

Ouch... is what I felt this morning. Having moved my exercise regime, starting this week, from all cardio to only a 5km run, then followed by weights... my abs hurt, my shoulders hurt, and yesterday I did legs after my run... and they hurt this morning. The best part... is that all the rest of the body doesn't really matter for a 5km run each day... except the legs. I kinda need them for this morning. They felt like jelly yesterday after the workout.

This mornings run will be interesting... and possibly slow, depending on whether my muscles warmup nicely or not.

I gotta give credit... I absolutely love www.lynda.com. By watching video tutorials, and I mean professional tutorials, for such a small cost for one months access... I can look through everything I want to learn in a month, pay for a month only, watch and learn everything, then keep going without worry. When I need to learn something again... stack them up, pay for a month, learn hard. Love it.

Makes so many otherwise technical, evolving issues, so easy to fathom, learn, adapt and well... implement with ease. You can become proficient in many things within a day or two of watching, learning, and following along in your software or hands on thing, thus learning and discovering as you go.

This, IMHO, is one of the very positives that the web brings to our homes.

So much to read, so much to do, and completely impossible within the bounds of time and space. Days are like a constant struggle between keeping the reality of being one person and human in my brain, whilst trying to keep out the feelings of disappointing so many who I cannot respond or engage with nowadays due to the size and complexity of what this community has become.

Just thoughts... like is good though!

Geez the haters annoy me at times. I get so tired of reading the same nonsense from a limited few... "how dare you tell me what I can and cannot do on your website" "you're a narcissist on a power trip, anthony" "I didn't do anything wrong, your staff think they're god or something" and blah blah blah.

I think the statistics for the haters are about one in ten... so does that make them a majority, like some claim after doing a search here and seeing that within 22000 participative members, there are about 1000 or so members who went all haterish and demanded their shit be deleted, blah blah blah!!! Numbers game... welcome to online communities.

What is so hard for people, even with PTSD, to take f*cken responsibility for their own actions and stop projecting their bullshit attitudes upon others? Like really... we all have PTSD or support it here. This community is about pushing yourself out of those negative behaviours, learn and grow into a human being that doesn't treat others like shit as some default setting, blame PTSD and blame everyone else for our own actions.

Talk about some people on a trip to not getting better anytime soon. I just sit in awe some days... the shit people write to me about how everything in their life is somehow my fault, or the fault of staff here. Never in a million years have they done something wrong! Heaven for bid... they're perfect and all.

I always wondered... who really has power control issues? The person enforcing rules without bias or ambiguity, or the person trying to fight the rules with the belief they're above or beyond them?

For all you haters and angry little f*ckers who just can't follow website policies and such... why do you bother joining? Maybe that is a rhetorical question!

Damn I'm glad that the Christmas period is over and done with in relation to this community. Honestly, people have little idea just how moody members can become here and unleash all their rage and frustration in the direction of staff. It annoys me, annoys staff, and well... I'm honestly just glad its now moved on and 11 months away before we repeat the cycle.

Frustration... just WOW!

So... what are my goals for here this year? At present, only two. Getting the newsletter going and doing a major boost to driving more relevant traffic here. And before anyone starts about who's paying for it... it isn't you, but me... so unless you're contributing to my out of pocket costs, say nothing please.

The newsletter is begun with a small group starting it out, and hoping we get interested people in wanting to publish their own pieces. Otherwise... IMO it will become boring without lots of diverse member and guest input, both questions and their articles and stories of their journeys.

I have also begun the traffic boost at the end of last year. I've been trialling a social networking automated software solution, helping push snippets of threads onto controlled social pages in which can then be boosted externally to boost here, thus the ultimate result is to drive more relevant responses here to members threads. I understand people jump and down about the unknowns, but all anyone ever need think about is that in near 10 years of running this community, I have not once breached a members privacy or done something that would breach anything private of theirs, that isn't already publicly accessible to the world. This is costing me about $600 per annum... but IMHO, worth it.

It takes a couple of months to begin seeing results, and I'm only just seeing the results of this first aspect now, which are positive and certainly going to get more interesting as these external pages build themselves.

I've just released the auto linking feature today, which has several affects. One is for members, especially new and guests, to quickly find the authoritative content. The second is it specifically links specific primary keywords the community is competing for within the world, to help drive those keyword terms upwards in rankings, hopefully.

The third is going to be a private employed digital marketer to do some link work for me, to really push some external social pages as well as some of the authoritative pages within this site, upwards in the rankings for relevant keyword terms. That one will be costly... but extremely worth it for members in relation to relevancy of traffic and thus boosting registrations and new members / guests responding to your content.

This year is really all focused on these aspects. Both are actually quite large projects. The SEO will take all year to perform, measure and adapt. The newsletter has lots of reading, research and writing involved, just to get together a few stories / pieces for each newsletter, let alone allow it to develop its own attitude based on ongoing feedback. The idea of the newsletter is that it becomes what the members want to read, nothing more, nothing less.

See what happens!
