I was an 0331 machine Gunner from2005-2010. Spent 14 months in Al Anbar Iraq. Mostly Fallujah and Bagdad.
I'm 60% service connected and diagnosed with PTSD, MDD, and GAD.
Also have some back, neck, and knee problems, but I work on my feet all day with few problems.
Welcome grunt31....Old Nam vet here......I don't understand part of your diagnosed, PTSD and the GAD part. PTSD is made up of GAD (anxiety) and Panic Attacks, with a lot of other shit we have to deal with....I have just never seen it diagnosed that way.....
Anyway you found the best site on the net for PTSD....Others will chime in shortly.....
Welcome mate, where are you from? This forum is full of veterans from all over the globe. I myself served in the Australian Army for 20 years and did tours in New Guinea, East Timor, and Iraq.
Just extra info so we can get to know you. Are you married?
Thanks for the welcome fellas. @OldDoorGunner, you're right about the anxiety disorder. I guess saying that I have both doesn't make much sense. The gad was a diagnosis from a civilian doc, but ptsd is the only mental health treatment I get.
For the 1st couple years I used my insurance from work to see a psych. Then I decided to go with the free option (Va).
I'm married for almost 6 years now, I live in the Midwest U. S.
I don't have any survivors guilt, very few nightmares, but I do get A LOT of night terrors.
I wake screaming with no memory of a dream.
I'd say my biggest difficulty is that I hate civilian life, and many civilians. The moment I stepped off the plane from Iraq, all I wanted was to go back to Iraq.
I was 0231 hq 2nd division. Was attached TAD to quite a few units. including 26th MEU and Force Recon. I served in Panama, Honduras, Columbia and the 1st gulf war. Been out a while now. I was with the first group of MCT in Camp Geiger.
