So I took a snow day today since I didn't want to drive an hour to work to sit and do nothing. A lot of people took the day off and decided to post on Facebook all they accomplished today from completely cleaning their house to cooking a great dinner and everything in between. It kind of made me feel kind of shitty since all I did was fold 2 baskets of laundry and work on a little bit of my crocheting. Mostly I hung around in bed with my cat watching an ncis marathon. Where's my motivation? I have a whole list of things that need to get done and I just don't do them. Any ideas on how to get motivated and not feel like crap when I don't do all I want?

(((@Julesnaz)))

I don't have any suggestions, but I can tell you that I'm learning that self care is extremely important for those with our condition as well as a calm, supportive environment.

In my opinion, you did that today and that's better than enough. You made a responsible adult decision to take a snow day off to avoid going stir crazy at work and being stuck inside your head, folded two baskets of laundry, worked on crochet, rested and cuddled with your animal companion, and watched a television program that you enjoy?

I hope I don't sound patronizing. It's wonderful what you did today. That's a lot.

I'll bet you most of those people on Facebook will not be posting their to do list tomorrow because they will be so exhausted that they will have to take another snow day and practice self care to recover :)

Either that, or they will be sitting at work tomorrow wishing they had taken a proper snow day :D

You accomplished more than I did. All I did today was a load of dishes and spent many hours reading thru this forum. A good chunk of time spent trying to find a trauma therapist in my area who accepts medicare. I found none. Getting frustrated. After I'm done with this post off to bed (hope I can sleep).

I am the queen of procrastination. I find I can get more done if I list on paper all the tasks that need to get done along with a date when it has to be done. I then make a shorter list with 2 or 3 tasks to be worked on today. I also have on the list a break in between items. I find I can accomplish more this way. If I try to do tasks from the larger, master list I get overwhelmed and I actually get nothing done.
When I work from the smaller, daily list I can get more done. I also break tasks into smaller tasks. For an example I would not say clean kitchen but will break it up into smaller tasks such as dishes, clean counters, clean off table etc. This usually works well with me.

I hope this makes it easier for you.

I hope you'll find more success
I can get very overwhelmed easy.
I will listen to music so its not as refuses then. After you finish the shorter list choose a couple more tasks and make another list. Just make sure your time sensitive get done on time. I know this helps me. I live by lists. When in shorter lists it doesn't get me overwhelmed.

I hope this works for you.

How much I accomplish depends on WHY I am motivated. As a single woman I would have enjoyed the day off and done basically nothing. As a mom, I feel more of a need to cook, clean, teach, etc. Give yourself a break and enjoy! Don't ruin a relaxing day with guilt.

I completely understand your lack of motivation. It really sucks!! I just started back to college because i wanted to finally finish my degree and i get paid to go. However, many days instead of doing my assisgned classwork i find myself reading other things on my computer, listening to music, or a sermon, going out to get the mail, cooking food than wash, lather and repeat.... I'm going to have to withdraw from school because I'm just not capable of focusing on it right now. let alone a full time schedule, I feel like a failure.I actually thought i did everything right this time because i when through the disabilty office and everything but I'm just not well enough.

I usually use lists too. Feels good to cross things off and keeps track of everything. I just hate it because I feel guilty doing nothing sometimes. I work weird hours so I usually don't have time to do things on days i work. I get up, get ready for work and leave quick and by the time I get home I'm tired so I eat and relax and go to bed. It doesn't help that I'm back living at home after my divorce so I can't do things at night when want to. I'm a night owl and my family goes to bed early.
