Maybe this should be a new thread:

Dissociation and Taxes: A Psychological Thriller.

Main character panics over parking tickets, confirms their payment, then works on understanding their Adjusted Gross Income for a while. Afterwards, the character boards the train after paying their fare, travels to the other side of town, switches lines, and then travels home. Once home, they make a cup of tea and go to bed.

If only the general public understood.

I wrote a review of the trailer for this movie on Medium when it first came out. Every time I see it in the theatre I cry. I am appalled that Shyamalan would produce this. There is, or was a petition to him and the actors to have a disclaimer added to the beginning of the film. No matter whether some see it as "fantasy" or not, the immediate message that it leaves viewers with is that folks with DID are or can be violent and dangerous. We deal with an immense amount of stigma as it is - most of us are unwilling to reveal that we have DID in the first place, even to medical professionals - that we do NOT need to deal with this, too.

I have been watching episodes of Once Upon a Time as a break the last couple of days. I really enjoy that show, the problem is that I am watching it through the ABC network and it shows commercials throughout. It's not so bad except that I keep seeing this commercial for a movie coming out called "Split" it is making me so mad. The premise is that there is this guy who has 23 personalities inside of him and they don't know there is this 24th and apparently evil one inside that is coming out. I am so anger because as someone who has dissociative identity disorder it is hard enough to get people to understand what it is and what it's like without Hollywood having a go at it and putting further negative stigma on it. I just had to get this out and I didn't know where to do so. Wondering if anyone else has seen this trailer and is reacting similarly.

I actually like the premise of the movie. But I don't get too fussed when they use disorders in movies or books, as long as it's getting out there in some way, I think it raises awareness. But like everything else, everyone will have their own reactions.

(Another favorite alter activity of mine? Paying parking tickets. For real. I'm serious. They should make a movie out of that plot twist. It goes like this: get parking ticket. Forget about parking ticket. Suddenly remember a month later and panic. Log onto city system. See that parking ticket was paid a month ago. Confirm this with bank. Stop panicking.)

Doctors appointment and much of the time work, are done by another part.

I watched "Chance" and actually found it very healing. I felt "Understood." So as trite as that sounds, very little fiction makes me feel that way post severe flashbacks and abbreaction.

I felt a lot of compassion for all the characters and felt it was a decent work of fiction at least. Not clinically accurate on all accounts, no, but the intent seems okay. It could potentially help the public care more about DID and giving true respect to sufferers of any mental illness so they can heal.

There was a lesson in the series about not forcing against their will to face complex trauma to face their trauma, for which they have denial and amnesia, without consequences for all. While fictional, it helps me deal with the urge to force my co-survivors or my fragments to come face to face with the traumas we've endured.

We will face what we can when ready. Meanwhile, respect the person's ability to heal as best they can while getting through day-to-day stresses.

Thanks for letting me know that there's another thread @lostforgottensoul , I was looking for one and didn't find it.

The reason I don't like this movie trailer is that it portrays the 24th personality as being evil/sinister- at least that's what I take from it, and I think it will give the public further reason to distrust the diagnosis of DID or those with it. I think there is other good information out there and since I haven't seen this movie, maybe it's different than it appears, but so far I just get angry.

That's what makes it a Movie, while United States of Tara is a TV show. If it's going to be on the big screen it's going to be some kind of Asteroids Destroying The Earth! // Rogue Cop! (Rogue Spy! Rogue Dishwasher!) // Snipers vs Vampires! // True Love! // or other foolishness. Big Screen = Bigger Than Life ...but simple enough to tell in just over an hour.

M Night Shymalan
Aaaaaaand you so lost me at M Nighy Shymalan :wtf: Bastard ruined Avatar The Last Airbender (making it all brooding & mopey & whining & awful, more like the parody the show did when the enemies put on a play making fun of the Airbender, than the show itself). Thank god he's sticking to horror films. Everything he makes turns into one.
