My dog is my best friend, too, so it's something we all seem to share here. He does 'get me out' of the house and provide me with a great deal of pleasure and comradeship, but unfortunately he doesn't make me feel safe - he's such a sweet soul he could never protect me and would, more than likely, run away if I was attacked. I also worry about other dogs attacking him, on top of worrying about my own safety. My sojourns with him, therefore, are often beset with anxiety, sometimes extreme, but there are times of pure pleasure too.
I, too, have thought to myself, 'How sad is' this? - that my best friend is a dog. I lost all my 'human' friends a couple of years ago, and remain saddened by the rejection to the point where it still feels painful. However, my dog is nicer, much more fun, and cuddlier, too! XX
