Here are some pics from the creek at the back of my house. I have included one of the house so you can see how far I have to walk.

If you check the photo with the rocks in the foreground, you can see how high the water comes up by the force in which it has bent the trees. During the wet season it is not really a creek but a river.

Sweet, jimmy cocker.

I have a stream at the bottom of my land aswell, nowhere as big as this, but again when it rains it is fed by all the local roads which turn it into a killer torrent.

I cut out a corner down there and let the sides overgrow to hide it, beautiful place to go and sit and switch off, but I have let nature take it back the last year, I need to clear it out again.

Can you hear the water flowing, I find the gurgling noise ours makes if very soothing almost hypnotic even.

I'd love to have a river on my property, alas I live in the city far from water. I'd be afraid of what happened recently in Colorado though, even on a small scale.

Mate the water is about 50 m if not more away and at one stage during a big flood, the water came up into the bottom floor of the house, but we have a contingency for that, bolt on waterproof shutters.

Barb, if you are afraid of something like the Colorado which does not happen all the time, you might as well be afraid of a plane falling on you. You just have to take the risk for the quiet mate. Rather than traffic, aircraft and dogs barking, I have animal noises and the night birds.

I will put some photo's up once I have cleared the land and towards Christmas when it is in flood.

Well, when I said "afraid" it was more of a figure of speech, and I did say "even on a small scale" putting it in perspective I thought. I think too much, and compulsively plan out far into the future. I do risk analysis and assessments on just about everything.

I grew up in S.E. Washington State. A few years in the Horse Heaven Hills, and even though there were no rivers close buy, the spring rains and quick melting of the snow washed out the roads each year I lived there. We were stranded for at least a week each time until road crews could repair and/or replace the washed out sections. When I say washed out, I mean 10-30 foot deep chasm through the road, across the bottom of the gullies.

I love water, the sound of water, etc... If anything, I'm jealous of those with water on or near their properties. Your property looks beautiful and peaceful.

Seeing your pics, reminded me of my situation. Our living set-up close to nature is similar Mate! I'll share some too...

Breath taking! Both sites! Arizona rivers and streams don't run until the monsoon season and then they rage bank to bank. Makes my humble little home look like a slum. I'm envious!

Ha ha...my kids are lucky. If I had this when I grew up my parents would've never seen me until bedtime. I like all seasons but eventually we'll head south since my bones/joints get more pain as the temps starts to drop. I like your location a lot Sarg!
