Why couldn't I just go to sleep last night?? I got to make things worse by having to listen to music before doing so and triggering things from the past. Maybe cause it was a music video. Than I go and make my kid miss the bus today, I will let today pass anyways. He usually makes it.

What are some good coping ways to relax my way into a sleep? I try to lay off sleep medication when it is school nights. Any advice is welcome

Sorry sweetheart, no magic formula. Maybe it is easier for me as I no longer have to think about children and their needs.

I try to stay as relaxed as possible. No computer after a certain time, eat early, do grounding techniques, Breathe, visit my happy place. Also keep warm, if I am warm it is easier to get sleepy. I probably shouldn't say this one, but a glass of wine with supper, chilled and drank slowly. Candles and an audiobook.

Sweet dreams

Hey there Mary e, i try visualization Techniques that they tought me on my military ptsd coarse.I live on the beach so i go to bed and place two pillows under my head and one under each arm, then i concentrate on my breathing, then visualise my self walking through the sand and try and feel the sand moving through my toes, as well as the sound of waves.Sometimes works for me , depending on my day. If you dont live near beach ,try and get your hands on one of those relax cd's with beach sounds, hope this helps. Kind regards Matt from down under.x

Well, if listening to certain music wound you up, you should find some that calm you down. I have a "Chillax" playlist saved on my computer and MP3 player - songs that make me feel mellow and calmer. I also have a sleep CD that plays music continuously for an hour. It drones on and on, doesn't repeat and doesn't have breaks in it.

If you get one of the beach CDs or other nature CDs, make sure they don't have annoying noises in them. I always get the ones with seagulls and the like, which wake me back up.

Lastly, TRY not to be active right before going to bed - do something relaxing and calming - meditate even (I find meditating puts me right to sleep LOL).

Of course, that doesn't mean I don't spend the middle of the night reading the forums, too. LOL Just some suggestions.

Yes I do some visualization, but listening the a sound track of beach/ocean would help me. And now I am mellowing out about what I listen to.

I use mantra's. When my thoughts are so intrusive I just focus on the same positive phrase over and over.

I also take Valerian root, suggested by my Psych. It is gentle but seems to do the trick. It gives me really vivid dreams too that are not usually nightmares. Melatonin gave me horrible nightmares.

Calcium and magnesium are supposed to help as well. I found a mix of calcium, magnesium and valerian. It works the best.

31 hours isn't too bad. With luck, you'll pass out before you hit hallucinations. Now THAT can be a kick in the pants, especially since in my experience my balance is gone before then, too.

Maybe try some relaxation exercises or watch movies you've already seen?

Heheh. I'm avoiding sleeping - too melancholy and don't wanna wake up in the morning. See, if I don't go to sleep, the morning won't come, and I won't have to wake up.....
