I'm still 'shell-schocked'...lol...he called on Tuesday and asked if I could come down on Friday to be with him when he married. Uh, YES, I was coming, Hell, or high water, through wind and snow...tornado...ok...a lil dramatic. It was very sweet. Nice Judge.
His bride is from the Philippines, and she's a sweetie. They met online through friends, and he had visited there before, and wanted to go again. That was last September. He was there for about 6 weeks, then came back for the Christmas season. (He and his dad were chefs on tour with The Trans Siberian Orchestra).
He went back and they decided they wanted to get married, and made a baby. OH, yes, I'M GOING TO BE A YIAYIA/Grandma/Nana/G'ma. My son is 30, and I was starting to wonder if he was going to make that choice. And, yes, I'm already shopping!
So, on Friday, I drove 3 hours down, stayed about 30 minutes, then came back. I don't really know anyone there but him, except his dad and step-sis, and knew I would feel like a 'bump on a pickle'!
I'll do my best to be a good mother-in-law...I'm hoping she'll be like having another daughter.
I actually made it all day without a cry-fest! Had to maintain tight control, almost wavered, but made it through.
Came home and went to bed right away, and stayed there for the whole next day. Luckily, the drive did not give me much grief at all. I still miss my Dina though she is always with me. Bittersweet moments...the milestones.
When he called today, I thanked him for not putting 'me' through a big wedding. He said that is how they both felt. They'll have a wedding party, and renewal in 2 years when they go back to the Philippines. She just got to the States in April. (It'll take that long to save enough $$). It is cheap to live there, but no way to make money, so they'll live here. Whew...I got lucky!
A happy new chapter has begun...
