My Wife May Have Ptsd

Hi

I'm just on here looking for some help.

My wife wakes up screaming. Not all the time but she generally has very disturbed sleep. She talks and shouts and as i said she sometimes wakes up screaming and punching at nothing.

She was attacked some years ago while she was asleep in her bed and as i've been searching the internet for her condition ptsd keeps coming up.

I just wondered what the opinion of the people on here might be and -- if she does have ptsd -- is there any form of therapy that is really helpful.

Really just looking for some advice here folks. Cheers.

Yes there is. There are other causes for sleep disturbances too. It would be good to check this out. She should do some research on available therapists because they aren't all created equal.

Welcome to the forum!

Hi @CaptainBalrog

You really need to get her to go and talk to her GP, and push for them to refer her for a psychiatric assessment, so she can get on the waiting list for therapy (unless you can afford to go private).

The sooner you can get her into the NHS mental health system the better, as the wheels are very slow to turn!

Good luck!

There are lots of great therapies out there for PTSD and ways to help sleep disturbances. But definitely she should talk to a professional and see which direction to head in as far as getting help. Good luck.
