Need Advice About Lexapro

Hello! This is my first post as I have recently found this forum, so thank you in advance for reading! I have a diagnosis of CPTSD, major depression, and DID.
I have been on Lexapro for about nine or so months and I feel so hopeless about it. I am up to 30mg, but I still struggle with major depression and suicidal thoughts. Is medication worth it? Does trauma and CPTSD keep medication from working? When I bring it up to my psychiatrist, she recommends waiting another month after month, but I don’t feel like it is working.
Any advice or how you have dealt with not giving up on medication would be super appreciated!

It’s very difficult to find an effective antidepressant with ptsd on board! 30mg is a high dose, and 9 months is a good lengthy trial, so if you feel like it’s not helping, it makes sense that you’d like to try something else. Possibly a different type of antidepressant to SSRIs.

One of the things that helped me get traction when I was trying to find a good medication mix was to track my symptoms. That gave me something solid to discuss with my pdoc about how things were going, and if they were getting better, worse or not changing over time as we threw different medications into the mix. It was also helpful for a number of other reasons.

There’s apps that allow you to track ptsd symptoms specifically (PTSD Coach is a free one), and similar apps for tracking depressive symptoms. But any old journal will also do the trick:)
