New Ad Trials

With the current lack of donations to support the forum, I am now trialling new ad profiles. I honestly never thought I would have to go this route, but it seems the way of the world with the same people giving (who cannot give forever and should not have to support the forum solely) and the rest unable to support the resource. There have been a couple of months lately that failed to meet the target just to pay for the server in order to keep the site online, thus the shortfall had to be covered privately. As a result, I am now forced into trialling new ad profiles to try and help raise money just to keep the site online. Yes, they're ugly... but they do the job.

The last lot of minor ad profiles made absolutely zero, though I avoided using Google ads. Now I'm forced into using them to try and cover any projected shortfall / lack of donations to pay for the server costs.

Complain, jump up and down, it makes no difference. If you want something without resorting to these things, then you either support it or your don't. The donation options haven't moved. With 19 days left in this cycle, donations are at zero upon posting this. That alone makes me nervous enough to begin trialling new solutions to help bolster the lack of donations / look for new revenue sources to cover costs.

At the moment, my choices are this (being ad trials), shut it down today and walk away, or sell it and walk away with no further out of pocket expenses.

People getting nervous about this post and donating this month alone, doesn't solve the longevity support issue. I'm not going to put myself through this every month to keep this site online, by posting what members can see for themselves via the donation bar.

I would like to become a premium member but my husband doesn't want me to have a pay pal account, is their any way around this, sorry I know it's a dumb question. He is so paranoid about the internet and putting bank details in etc. could I direct credit into your bank account or send a cheque or simaliar , and just pay in advance a couple of years so it isn't as much of a hassle .
I have been trying to think how to do it for a while but thought it was to silly to ask.

I have created a one year premium subscription upgrade which can now be purchased via Paypal by using a credit card, no account needed because its not a subscription. Choose the credit card option without account to purchase when upon the payment page:

When it expires, you have to manually renew. Just ensure you follow the process through until you land back here so the upgrade completes correctly, and instantly.

When looking at the site in my cell phone, like many do, the donations tab for the month shows up at the very very bottom. Just an idea... Is it possible to have that show up near the top on mobile phone screens? I know, we should not be so lazy, I'm just thinking that many users don't see it because it's at the bottom on cell phones.

Thanks for what you do, and enduring the stress of it all as long as you have. I'll do what I can to donate over the long haul. This site has been an amazing tool in my recovery. Well worth every penny I can give.

No, nothing I can do about that. The overall issue is longevity though... this is a repetitive issue and keeps repeating. The same people cannot, and should not, be supporting the site each month. If ad revenue helps, then I can drop the donation amount / remove it altogether (if that lucky)... if it doesn't, then back to square one.

I donated at one time to get the premium stuff, I haven't regretted it. And I'm not scared of ads either.. Hell, I'll even click on them. :)

As a premium member you won't see the ads. Saying that... it is against Googles TOS to falsely click ads, and thus can actually get the site banned from using them by doing so. This applies to any site using Google Adsense.

please explain to a non-tech person: "falsely click ads", what does this mean? If you click on an ad, you have clicked on it. How can that be false?

Anthony, thank you for figuring out a solution that did not include walking away or selling it. Having PTSD yourself, I imagine the additional stress and responsibility for others is quite a respectable daily feat to manage.

Insofar as myself, I have been waiting on the funds to transfer to paypal (which takes approximately 5 days). It should be available later today at some point to do so.
