I thought I would share this with you as I think I might be on to something. Recently, my wife got involved with direct selling for a company that makes warmers and all these different waxes that you place in the warmer. Each of these waxes has a different scent.

So, tonight, I sat down with her and we went through "a starter kit" that the company had sent her. Inside this kit were like 80 different waxes, each with a different scent. She wanted to know which ones I liked. So we went through every one of them.

Aside from finding out which ones I liked, I started to notice some physical and emotional reactions to some of these scents. Some were very calming, some were spicy and exciting, others made me feel hungry and still others made me think of places I had been that were more pleasant times of my life. Then of course, there were those that I absolutely hated.

The point in all of this is that I think I might have found something that might help decrease my anxiety and help calm me. I just wanted to share this because if it will help me, it might help you too. I hope it does. Respectfully, Paranoid10.

Hi Paranoid

Sounds like these waxes have essential oils in them, this is just one way of using them, and one of the easiest.

Aromatherapy can help PTSD sufferers if your open to trying something different to the norm of meds. Like my husband who used to think this was all hocus pocus, though he now has a box of his own oils, that we use in the bath, for massage and for emergencies.

You may find this thread interesting too Paranoid.

Smell is one of the senses strongly linked to memory as far as I know...as I understand it the olfactory neuron axons leave/project from the olfactory bulb/nerve/etc and travel..between the piriform cortex, the amygdala, the anterior olfactory nucleus and the entorhinal cortex...? I think. The last one is all interconnected between the amygdala and the hippocampus, responsible for complex higher emotion and memory which is why smell is...er...related to memory especially emotional memory. Like color imprinting sort of. Also the piriform cortex is near the base of the brain which is where a lot of PTSD symptoms actually arise .... Er...basically...it's not really that far fetched....

Sometimes when I really freak out I eat a lemon :D I am sure smelling one would be fun too.
