This last week, The Nature of Things did an hour on PTSD. It's quite good. It may not tell you anything new, but it's heartening to see it on tv, and done in a way that might help lessen the prejudices that still occur for people with PTSD.
For those of you who aren't Canadian, you may be able to find this episode on CBC.ca.

It took me a couple of google tries, but I thought the people with it explained it remarkably well, not only but including 'get them there (out of isolation, Vets) with food or hugs or something they'll come out, beats sitting in the basement planning ways to finish yourself off' . Or like the guy who kept driving, Idk I just keep walking (since I don't drive).

Actually I did learn some things, or confirmed what I've experienced : role/ vs helplessness presented differently in the brain & with different symptomology (they didn't question if it was gender related); excessive emotions led to shutdown; problem seems to be related to overactive communication (vs structural anomalies ) between memory & emotions; affects the family, esp the closest relationships; deep brain stimulation (tailored) may one day hold promise.

Oddly, out of just sheer desperation since I found it also seemed to help, they've used prazosin and associating memories with reduced emotional response targeting remembering the worst, most salient/ troublesome details/ memories (that fact we know of course, didn't catch if it was tlk therapy or EMDR, and isolated trauma), but I've tried to associate them with something better, a new good memory, instead of avoidance, too. (Like being afraid of short hair I wear it long but put it up doing something 'safe'/ relaxing; a name is a bad connotation I say it for good people with the same name; anniversary is bad try to schedule something special and happy in advance. Etc. Stupid but helps me. )

I think it was well done. Actually, it made me cry twice. :(

Anyway, sorry for rambling, hope that makes sense, and thank you @Chem Lady . It was kind of ~Canadian-like (eh? :) )

(Ps though, did you notice the woman who said it would lessen with time, was kind of blunted and carrying a martini.. :sneaky::p)

Thanks so much for your reply June Bug. I was so mentally exhausted when I posted this, that I wasn't able to put my thoughts together like you did. I agree with so much of your thoughts.
I did notice the drinking lady at the end! I also had a chuckle about that.
I am so pleased they did this and represented ptsd quite well. I'm hoping it'll be a step towards removing the stigma that is still often associated with ptsd.
