Hello. I'm new here but not new to forums. I am currently seeing a therapist for anxiety issues. I've been seeing her for almost two years, and she truly is wonderful! She has taught me a lot of coping tools, and is extremely supportive. Recently she suggested that I could benefit from EMDR therapy. However, she, herself is not trained to do that, but she knows someone who is. She suggested that I continue seeing her in addition to the EMDR therapist as a source of extra support. I was hesitant about seeing this EMDR therapist until last week when I had an anxiety attack in my therapist's office. after she asked me a simple question. She helped me through the attack and then gently brought up EMDR again. She offered to contact the EMDR therapist to give her so,e background info prior to my meeting with her. This seemed like a good idea to me, so I agreed. I guess I will find put more when I see her later this week.

I'm just so confused and uncertain and have sooo many questions, so I thought the best way to get valid information is from people who have been through the experience. Looking forward to learning more from people who have been there.

I have been doing the same now for 1 year. emdr in my experience will help to improve your life significantly. In my opinion it's the relationship with the emdr specialist, trust established, which will be critical. My T knew this individual well and that transition helped in the process. It is tiring work, but it's worth it and in conjunction with your regular T will prove to be invaluable. The benefit of having 2 has been very helpful. Good luck and if you have any more questions don't hesitate to write

Thanks for your reply, Patience1. It helps me to know that having 2 therapists was helpful to you. Initially, i was concerned that it would be too overwhelming for me, but I'm starting to see that it could be very beneficial.

Hi I was terrified before doing it and it changed my life for the better, I am no longer haunted nor tormented by the painful memories I was able to deal with.

It may work or not for you so be cautious and trust your gut instincts ok? For some people they quit because it was so hard for them. i guess I was ready for it. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. Good luck on whatever your choice is.

EMDR doesn't work on everyone, but theraphy usually is a helpful thing :)

There is a lot of information around, and I'm glad you found answers

Welcome to the forums! Hugs

Saelben, my current therapist is amazing, and I'm fortunate to have her! If she was trained in EMDR, I wouldn't even be questioning doing it. In addition to PTSD, I also have an anxiety disorder, so the thought of starting with a new therapist is a bit daunting to me. But, I'm at least willing to meet with the EMDR therapist to see if it's the right type of therapy for me.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I'm glad I found this site!
