New Med, New Feelings

My neurologist felt the Xanax wasn't helping. She felt my reflexes are too hyper acute and prescribed Klonopin. I'm so leery of meds. But my family who are medical practitioners feel I should take it to calm my system. I've taken for 1 1/2 days. My body feels calm but I don't feel much of anything. I feel a bit numb. Which beats panic and anxiety but I want to feel like myself. My family said it is going to take time. I'm running out of patience. I don't know if what I'm doing is right or wrong. Has anyone felt this way? I still have to have my thyroid meds level ed. Has anyone felt this way?

I agree with your family. It will take time. Your anxiety is there for a reason, and in my experience, anxiety caused physical symptoms that are not acceptable.

Once your body is used to the Klonopin, I would think your feeling numb will get better.
Can you try watching happy holiday movies, or listening to Christmas music? If you can get some "good stuff" visually, and listen to things that are positive, that may help.

Honor your feelings, if you have things around this time of year that are sad...it's ok to grieve if that's an issue.

BLESSINGS TO YOU!

Thank you. I got my new Christmas tree delivered today and while it's early I decided to put it up. It's not decorated but the lights are on. It's a glimpse of the future rather than just today.

I've been on Klonopin for over 10 years. I am highly sensitive to meds and find this is about the only med I can tolerate. Benzo's get a bad wrap, but I can tell you it's been a wonderful med for me with absolutely no side effects. I am on .5 mg twice a day when I am having a rough day. I also can knock the dose up or down as needed. One thing I can tell you is for me if I am taking too much of it, it has a tendency to make me depressed. This makes sense if you think about it. it's purpose to to calm you down. I think if you give it some time you may find that it works well for you.

Weaning off the klonopin was one of the worst things I have ever went through. There are times where it would be so nice to just go back on it, but I don't think I could do that again.
It really was a pretty great med and I was definitely more "me" on it, I had a level of control over myself that I haven't had before or after. Some people find that klonopin kind of kicks their ass at first, definitely a matter of getting used to it. If it's working, stick with it, it's been a rough spot for you and it's worth it to take something that can help you pull through x

What dose are you taking? Maybe you could try the least you'll need inorder to feel calm? I do remember that even on the tiniest dose, it hit me pretty hard at first. But then again, I was in some serious need of calming.

I'm currently taking Klonapin, prescribed .50mg/day as needed. I cut that tablet in to 4s and only take .125mg at a time. I'm highly sensitive to medication. My psychiatrist wanted me to take it when things were bad because of the same reason your Dr and family have suggested. Now that things are calmer, I almost never take more than .125mg a/day. But when I have a horrid time, I might take .25 or .375mg. She doesn't want me "chasing my tail". Fight it, stop it, calm it and then we back off the dose a few days later.

Ive not been on any meds so i cant really comment , i would listen to your family and maybe give them a little time. You say you are not feeling as anxious so something appears to be working.
You have some good insight and advice from the amazing people above so i cant add anything else apart from - take it one step at a time and im here to listen if you want to chat or dance to the 'spice' girls!!!! Lol
