Welcome to the Forum Lyrical

I echo the words the others have said to you.

You've learned something many of us have: not all therapists (or doctors for that matter) are good for us, or effective at their job. Glad to hear you're giving therapy another shot again.

I saw a bunch of doctors and therapists before finding a good done.

I hope the one you found turns out to be competent and a natural fit for you and, ideally, is a trained trauma specialist, though it's not absolutely essential that she/he is to find healing.

Hi Lyrical,

I'm pretty new here also, although my 'restricted' expired. Whether or not you post, it's quite amazing how much it helps to belong here!

Sometimes just tooling around and reading about how others feel exactly the same way about 'things' is SUCH a relief that yes, you go away and cuddle the dog and drink hor chocolate. :)

When you're up-against-the-wall with something, posting about what you're going through that day always elicits a ton of responses. You might come away exhausted but you log off better and a little more healed than before.

Because you're dyxlexic, posting is probably a little more exhausting than it is for some of us because writing takes more attention, I think? Post when you can, and I hope you'll have been able to find a therapist who is lovely and healing for you.

Welcome and take care,

Anni

Wow, thankyou all so much for your replies. It really does mean so much to know that there are people out there who feel the same way, or even who just understand that sometimes things get to much.

I'm really hoping that the new therapist will help. I'm not sure how long the waiting list is though, I must remember to ask the Doc next time I go. He said that the person is a trauma specialist though so maybe that will help. The last person I saw was a teenage/young adult counsellor and whilst I imagine they would be great for some people it didn't work out so well for me.

Thanksyou Anni, i'm trying to be careful with my spelling and word order, the checkers on microsoft help alot.

I hope everyone is having a 'good' day today.

Lyrical,

Welcome to the forum. This is definately a great place for support. There are some wonderful people here. I found it much easier to open up and talk about my trauma than I thought it would. Well, easier HERE anyway!! I have also found a lot of support and some great information. I look forward to talking more with you!

Hi Lyrical,

I read your entry and was very touched by your message. I had been misdiagnosed with depression and agoraphobia even though I tried again and again to try to tell doctors that my symptoms did not match those diagnoses. I too gave up on therapy and my life spiraled out of control resulting in multiple hospitalizations and inability to continue to function in any kind of job or to even leave my house.

After my last hospitalization I finally found a psychiatrist who actually listened to me and found a diagnosis of PTSD and bipolar disorder. He referred me to a therapist who has been tremendously helpful. I am still on the road to recovery but my quality of life has improved drastically. So hang in there, things can get better!

Hi Jen, thankyou for your post. It does seem like alot of people find it easier to open up here, probably because of the obvious support and understanding, and possibly also because of the anonimity (sp). It also seems like a nice place to just chat.
