Sufferer New, Ptsd From 2 Tours In Iraq, Going On A Third To Afghanistan

I'm not sure what to say or where to start, but I have to take control before it becomes too late.

I'm about to lose my wife and I've been out of control. I can't sleep, I have consistent nightmares, I get emotional very quickly (anger, sadness, crying). I'm almost always depressed, although it doesn't show. I'm jumpy, especially being at fort sill right now for a couple weeks, the constant artillery impacts and not knowing when they're going to hit startles me constantly.

I've been drinking a lot, pulling away from friends, family and worst of all my wife. She has been trying for years to get me to get help but I kept on denying that anything was wrong. But don't want to get too in depth on the intro, just not sure what to do. I'm heading to Afghanistan in another month.

Welcome ArmyFister

I know that behaviour from my husband. What really helped me was the Video about the cup explanation. I left my husband before 'cos I could not bear it anymore. But we are back toghether again.
There can be a future!

Hello. Have you discussed this situation with your commanding officer? If you're dealing with stop loss trauma on top of the rest you might not want to redeploy right now. In order to handle going back to the line, the basics need to be stable first. Are you at all familiar with EMDR?

Have you looked into the wounded warrior project? My brother in law did 2 tours in Iraq and has PTSD bad and he has gone into the wounded warrior PTSD program once for 3 months and is about to go back it has helped him a lot. Maybe its something you want to look into. If u need to talk feel free to message me

I have a saying: In order to take control you have to let go. Though you did a great job at taking the first step at reaching out for help. No one can control every aspect of life; it would be like walking onto a freeway and trying to stop the next oncoming car with your mind.

Drinking does make matters worse, Your depressed and drinking a depressant; it only covers up some of the symptoms. And the way you sound dosn't seem like you should be headed out in the feild yet. Nothing personal, IMHO

When you decide to go to your base hospital, the meds they perscribe can reduce your anxiety and depression, so you have better control over your behavior. As well as figure out a treatment plan for you.
