New Here
Hi everyone,
I'm a combat Vet with PTSD and in my third year of college. I'm in my junior year research class and decided to tackle the different treatments for PTSD. I found that there is little knowledge about adventure therapy for the treatment of PTSD. I have been digging, writing, and more research and decided to take this project to my professor. He too is interested in this topic. I have surveys, and consent forms all ready if anyone wants to participate.

Thanks

TMcCosco, welcome. I am viewing this remotely. Can you enlighten me as to what unit, service and war/ engagement your were apart of?

Have you cleared this with our site admin? Before posting any further enquiries as far as your research goes..... please ensure you obtain permission from Anthony, thank you.

Well TMcCosco, if you are in fact a veteran with PTSD then welcome to the forum, and could you please provide us with some insight into who you served with and where.....

You see, we get all sorts of loons, trolls, and wannabe's on here disrupting the smooth operation of the forum.

I appreciate what your trying to do , and it might be a good thing, but there is a procedure to follow, otherwise your likely to be told where to shove it.

So please follow JennyMac's advice and contact 'Anthony'. If he gives you the nod all will be fine.

Lets see...
The forum has rules on joining that are pretty clear.
Your one and only post is about research and surveys.
What on Gods green earth makes you think I am willing to open up and discuss Combat or PTSD with you? I don't know you and I don't even trust you. And that's something any vet would understand. I don't think your even a vet let alone one with PTSD. You would know what your doing is wrong.

Normally I would be mad and I would call you names for thinking you could do this. But I am just so tired. Tired of people doing stuff like this and intruding on the one place I feel is safe for me. You just left a giant turd on my doorstep. Thanks.

Hey T

Welcome to the forums. I think your excitement about a possible 'new' treatment for PTSD has probably brought you here. Please follow Jen's request, it's just the chain of command, something you understand.

As far as treatments go, there's a new one every week for PTSD. You'll have to excuse my cynicism because I've had this a very long time and the conventional treatments; therapy and perhaps some meds, still works for most that work at them. I'd be interested in what it is you're proposing.

I thought the antidote for war is San Francisco, Summer of Love. Grow you hair long, old jeans (too poor for anything else). Lots of drugs, and Weed and Xtasy. And a big dog to sit with while stoned on a beach somewhere doing TM and breathing.

Wouldn't adventure be more like a symptom than a treatment. Can they fix my hip?

The antidote for war is more war. You can even go to war while on PTSD meds.

I know, I know that could never happen in the American Military, we take care of our own right?

That's a good example of mental health going into the toilet

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/many-frontline-troops-turn-to-meds-to-cope/

The army is drugging Massive levels of troops while they are STILL in combat to retain them as combat effective.

Does anyone else see that's not a good idea? One in five gets PTSD due to deployment. that's the claim in the article. So every time you deploy its another one in five chance. So if you deploy five times your at or above a 100% chance of getting it. Yet they deploy some guys 8-9 even 10 times. Even Rambo would get PTSD over that much stress.

An entire generation of young men AND women. This site is due for a HUGE influx of new members in the following years. This is sad. And every bloke on the planet is going to have a "cure"

There was the baby boomer generation, and gen x now we will have generation ptsd.

It makes me mad that no one that had the power to stop this crap from happening bothered to do something. How can anyone involved with psychiatry say that someone with ptsd is cured or that its ok to give meds to combat the effects of ptsd so you can keep adding combat stress?! Our leadership failed these warriors!

Right on point, Red. I kept saying that they needed to staff up, that sending folks over time after time was going to play hell with them. Then you have the McCain types that want to start wars with everyone on earth. They need to bring em' all home, give them a long, much needed leave and then put them on the border of their choice.
