New Here
Hey all,

I'm new to this & just needing some advice.

I've only recently been diagnosed with PTSD & depression, and am currently seeing a therapist weekly. This is due to a bad childhood due to mental & verbal abuse & witnessing physical abuse. My mum didn't protect me from her new alcoholic husband!

I'm just wondering how long it takes to start feeling better? Do you ever feel fully better and get rid of the PTSD?

Hello Sian,

Welcome to this forum. You can find solution for your problems and you have arrived at right place. You can discuss here and also if you have got therapist, that will help you a lot.

:)

Welcome to the forum. I had a difficult childhood also. You can recover from it and feel better. Be gentle with yourself. Everything comes in it's own time. Remember you are worth the effort. Good luck on your journey.
Peace

Hi Sian!

Welcome! You will find that there is lots of supportive understanding members on this forum.

It's great that you have been diagnosed and have a therapist, that's the first step to feeling better.

There's no timetable to recovery, but I can say since I have been diagnosed I have learned a lot and have a lot of peace that I did not have before.

Looking forward to reading your posts.

Best,

-LL

Thanks all for your support and welcome!

I'm glad I stumbled across this site, as I had been feeling lost as no one around me can truly understand what I'm going through as they haven't been through it themselves.

:-)

You have a therapist! That's great. I think something else you can do is find a good support system. This is something that can be hard to do alone - I learned that the hard way.

Welcome

Welcome. I am new as well. I have found this site to be very helpful and full of different perspectives, voices, and people. I believe the best thing you can do for this is to research. I believe if you take the necessary steps to healing, be patient, allow yourself to be honest with your past, how it has affected you, and how it distorted your reality now helps in order to change your perception of the world. I believe if you work at it really hard and give it your best it will be more manageable.

I believe happiness is a choice and something people like us have to fight for everyday. Progress is small, and it happens over time. You can't wish it away over night. I believe being positive is the best approach to handling this and coming to terms with the past, present, and your future. Self realization is important. Admitting and taking responsibility for your feelings is also important.

I wish you the best in your healing process. If you ever need to talk, I am here.
