Hello. I am newly diagnosed with PTSD. I was encouraged to go to see a therapist by my husband, who has been dealing patiently with my angry outbursts and controlling behavior for much of our relationship. After 3 years, his patience has run thin, and he has finally made me realize that there is something going on and that I need help.
I had done tons of reading about controlling behavior, and convinced myself that I had OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder). But after a visit to a therapist it seems that may not be the case. She believes that my behavior is rooted in PTSD, brought on by a severe car accident about 10 years ago, and also as the former-long-time partner of a severe alcoholic.
I am just learning about this disorder, and am hopeful that this forum can help me adapt and heal. :)
