Hi every one my name is Matt, new to this website.Just wondering if anyone can help me. I spent 10 years in the army as a medic, i was med discharged in 1999, will nil os service, 2010 was diognosed with P.T.S.D at st john of god [sydney]. Doctors put me on seroquel 50mgs tds and evanza tds. My wife of 14 years left me 5 months ago due to my sleeping habits and mood swings, latley i have not been sleeping , maybe two hours a night. Also having plenty of nightmares.[military related],is it me or the medication or maybe my wife leaving me.At my wits end,any one with any ideas. Cheers. Matt

Welcome to the forum Matt.

I'm so sorry I've no magic answer, it could be a mix of all three. There are plenty here, myself included who sleep either a little or too much and have nightmares. I can't comment on the drugs you are taking, I'm on different meds. I'm sure another member will have more useful advice.

I'd recommend reading the articles on the homepage. They helped put my symptoms into perspective and made me realise that what I was feeling was normal for PTSD. I've also found such friendship and support here.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, I just wanted to let you know you are not alone.

(((HUGS))) if you will accept them

Welcome Matt. I have difficulty with sleep disruption because of nightmares (traumas in my case). Others here deal with it too. Somehow it is easier for me to go through, knowing that other people are experiencing this too. I try to compensate by allowing a quiet time (if not a nap, a lot of times I can't relax well enough for a nap)... and I lay quietly, try to breathe and consciously practice mindful body relaxation techniques. It helps and with practice, I can do this when I get the nightmares.

Thanks kp for reply, except hugs thank you. Matt. p/s can i have you as friends?

You can click on the blue nickname and go to the profile of the person, then click follow. (I'm newer too, so I'm still learning). And yes you can add me if you want to. I clicked your nick and I'm following you now.

There are some introduction vids for how to use the forum, Anthony has really put together some great tools and they can help you with figuring things out. Great article section here too. Blessings... gotta jet.

Hi there, Brodes - I've had insomnia my whole life - trouble getting to sleep, trouble staying asleep, and waking up too early. There were years in fact when I only got 2 hours of sleep a night - I just couldn't sleep anymore than that. After my other traumas I sleep too much or not at all, depending on how my day has gone (I'm assuming that last bit) and for the last 2 years have had nightmares every single night. It wasn't until a recent medication change that the nightmares finally stopped and I got my "real" dreams back again. What a relief! Still have nightmares about once a week, but that's cake in comparison to what I was doing.

Welcome to the forums - there's a world of information and wonderful people here!
