Hi and welcome to the forum!

Dissociation is the pits, isn't it?!

Mindfulness is fantastic! Please don't feel discouraged or like you can't master it - it just takes a little bit of practice.
I just posted under another thread for a fellow whose girlfriend is a sufferer, in this section some tips that you can use. I'll try to paste the link here.

(With apologies, I have the flu and need to go back to bed.)

Welcome!:)

The one thing that has always helped me is grounding techniques -- getting up and doing something very mundance and simple. Make a glass of tea, take a bath, do the dishes. It sounds stupid, but these things really help you regain focus and come back to reality. You just have to force yourself to start doing them, and then it really helps. I was surprised how much these stupid little things help.

Thx for the Help Casey and Deer :) will give it a go Casey

Dissociating served a good purpose when we were being traumatized. Getting to a place that every little reminder of abide triggers a dissociative state takes mindfulness. To stay present and grounded. I struggle with this but keep trying and feel proud of myself if I work through a highly charged incident in life.

I am fortunate to have a job that provides me with relationships with many evolved people. If I am having trouble with a client-like being taken advantage of or battered by, I share it and get really great advice. To the point of asking them to write down specific actions to take to keep me in control. I am making progress!!

Yoga has been a godsend to me. In session at restful time after class has ended we are read a short affirmation followed by guided relaxation. It's freeing the mind to follow positive thoughts. Plus I am getting feeling back in my body that I shut off in childhood. I have had flashbacks at yoga and reiki and my teachers help me come back. My therapist helps me come back. If I'm alone and awake late like now I get on the forum and connect with others. So, in closing I'd say being mindful, using energy healing like yoga and reiki are my go to places. Keep trying, you will gain more control with time.

I concur. I would also like to further add specifically that maybe you could take a look at your surroundings. Like really take it all in and be in sync with your breathing as you describe the objects around you. Breathe in and breathe out. In my opinion, I find this to be an effective method in staying in touch with reality, since there is factual evidence that you are in the present. Although, this could be very contradictory if you are in a area where triggers are highly visible. You could also reaffirm to yourself that its okay, that you are okay and that it is now all in the past.
I don't know if these would benefit you, but these are the grounding techniques that help me re-orient myself to the present before I get sucked into a trance of unresponsiveness.

Just my two cents.

Look how far you've come, random! I didn't know you then, but it seems you're a very different, healthier person now, and helping other members to be present. That's great to see! (((random)))

I'm new to all this and appreciate the question and all the helpful responses for they are helping me. And just to see how this community cares is a big help.
