Nutrition & Exercise Can Create A Positive State Of Mind

These days, in the general sense, I think of exercise (defined) as the most tolerable and accessible way to
get my heart doing, and get myself breathing hard. And then sustain that activity for as long as I can, within reason.

It has to be efficient, it has to accomplish the goal of injecting air (oxygen) into my system. Getting the air injected into my blood is what generates a lot of the feel good, clear headed, optimistic and stress reduced (relaxed) sensation I seek.

For me, exercise is mind/body "maintenance".
 
Coconut oil is amazing. THey are using it to create a formula for Alzheimer pts. Be careful, it can pack on the lbs! LOL!I started it and it really was true...........like a terrible craving. It grows the brain cells or something? I take it every day because the drs are now monitoring me for neurodegenerative disorder and I want to prove them wrong.

ALso be careful with the supplements. I took too many and caused some kind of weird neuropathy, or so they say. I am not really convinced, but.......

YES to the juicer. I need to do m ore. I used to do more and felt better than the juicer had a problem and I quit. But I can get a cheap one for $45.
 
I am blending smoothies that include protein power, fresh greens, lemon & fruit juice. Trying to get ph to the alkaline state. Has anyone used liquid oxygen? Having trouble finding it. I am really excited about getting it - my mom used it and she said it took away that coating from her tongue. That coating on the tongue occurs when the body's ph is acidic. In the meantime I'm doing deep breathing. Great news: my daughter wants us to start doing yoga every morning! Grateful!
 
That's some interesting info about the coating on tongue, Copper Stone. It comes up in the lemonade cleanse stuff from Burroughs, too.
 
If you think about it - eating when activated or triggered doesn't make sense at all because in flight or fight mode the body releases chemicals to stop the digestive process and blood flows away from there to the places that help you fight like your arms and legs. It was 3 days after my husband's suicide attempt before I could eat a decent meal.

Beware who you trust for information there's a lot of snake oil in the nutrition/supplements industry. It's best to attempt to locate research (if it exists) that isn't done by someone with a $$ interest.

Magnesium is definitely a good one though. It is very helpful for getting my body to relax and go to sleep. It is a component needed for the biosynthesis of mineralcorticoids which are the OFF button. Glucocorticoids are the ON.

For those who have the genetic predisposition to Metabolic Syndrome it makes sense to eat a low glycemic diet. When flight or fight response is activated you body releases a lot of glucose into the blood stream which then causes your pancreas to release a lot of insulin. However the flight or fight also increases your circulating glucocorticoids and that interferes with the binding of insulin and glucose with cells. Net effect is a lot of circulating glucose and cells not getting enough energy.

Glucocorticoids also increase muscle catabolism. So when you are activated and then crave carbs it make sense to give your body some to prevent that. There's also research indicating giving into those carb cravings help calm the stress response in some genetic types.

Exercise is a big Yes also, but it needs to be voluntary. It can help several ways - one of which is to use up the energy released during a flight or fight and the other way is that it has been shown that exercise causes the body to release chemicals which enhance neurogenesis.
