One Womans Journey To Heal And Connect

Tj's Paradigm Shift

Bronze Member
51 year young gf with complex ptsd seeks common ground with others who 'get it' and are on a path of gradual healing.

Getting back to basics and forming cohesive friendships that are non-toxic or suffocating is essential to those of us who know what it is to have PTSD. It would be great to meet others who enjoy simple things like camping, fishing and scenic settings where people can just 'be'.

Like many, I'm one with PTSD who does not care for loud crowd scenes, any kind of violence, controlling people or confrontational settings. I understand how deeply the layers of PTSD run, feeling isolated, detached or indifferent and how important it is to follow a path of healing at a gradual pace, respecting individual boundaries.

I am not seeking a relationship of any kind, be it male or female. Am still leary of relationships. Would be nice to form an outdoor ladies group (but not limited to) for those who like camping, fishing, crabbing, BBQ's (I love to cook), sharing humor or other creative endeavors.

I do smoke cigs and am a moderate drinker but will not be around anyone into drugs or hard core drinking (too chaotic). I am understanding of those who balance with herbal essence but nothing beyond that. I am honest, non-aggressive, pro-communication (for an introvert) yet not an excessive talker. Let's cultivate something cohesive.

Any suggestions on such gatherings welcome.

Thank you. Tj (snohomish county, washington state)

Hi Tj and welcome, hanging out with people who enjoy those types of things sounds so fun. I think a lot of us have some paranoia issues.. including myself and prefer to have a place we can isolate, but getting out to do things always sounds healthy. Your desire to not be around drug addicts is a good thing to go by in my opinion. I myself spent half my life doped up on all kinds of things, whatever I could get my hands on really. Since my onset and later diagnosis of Ptsd, I have cleaned up my act and started going to therapy. One of these days I will get back to doing those things I love to do, like walking by the river to collect rocks, taking my dog for a hike and go camping again...it's been far too long.

Thank you for your response and input G.R. Does Game Reign have a first name? *lol* When you mentioned "paranoia issues" I got to thinking...when a person's been through a lot in this life and ends up guarded, within reason, there's likely such a thing as 'healthy paranoia' that keeps us cautious in a necessary way. I don't see that as rationalizing. Makes sense to this woman :)

It would be great to meet like-minded individuals to enjoy camping, fishing, scenery and just getting back to basics in a beneficial way. Most people that I've met who have ptsd tend to seek out the wrong kind of isolation or feel isolated even around others. I know the feeling all too well. I have a hard time in noisy, crowded or synthetic environments that are full of pretenses or agendas. Makes for internal noise or strife...

Welcome to the forum Tj P.S. Wish we could live closer - I'm in Quebec City, those are the kind of activities I love. Not a great cook but love eating :p. My appartment is just beside a protected forest (Indian reserve) so I have birds, squirrels, cascades, the sun, moon and stars for neighbors - can't ask for anything better ! Love that photo of the sun through your tent. I'm sure you will meet some folks here who will fit your criteras.

Hi Froggie. Thank you for the great response and nice to meet you. The tent pic inspires a new day :) If you're ever in the beautiful Pacific Northwest or near BC, please let me know. Do you speak Quebecois? *lol* Do you enjoy the Montreal music fest?

Me too.
Hi Tj's PS and welcome to the forum. I love hiking and bird watching though I'm no camper. I'm a little to far to meet up personally but I really do hope you can meet people nearer to you. (I'm in the UK). Here's a picture of the sunset over Morcombe bay in Silverdale, Lancashire. I stay there in a cottage sometimes with my hubby and we walk and talk and enjoy the quiet. Best wishes to you.

I guess I can let down my guard by request and tell you my name is 'Shannon'. I used to be a very outgoing person in the way of nature, I used to hike and camp in many areas from the beaches of Oregon and Triangle Lake. I used to enjoy hiking in Bend and Klamath Falls and too many places to mention. I have become a bit of a shut in, the notion of getting back out to enjoy the things I used to love excites me.

Hi Shannon and thank you for the response. I understand when you say you "used to" enjoy several activities in past tense. That's why I'm gradually putting together an activities group for those of us with ptsd to partake at their comfort level in a non-judgmental environment. Getting back to basics is so essential and healing in itself :)

Hi CC. Thank you for the encouraging response. Nice sunset pic! Being across the pond, that is a tad too far unless you can somehow fire up the corporate jet and come over *lol and kidding* It's always nice to make a new friend though. Please stay in touch :)
