Overcoming Triggers

I've read about and watched lectures on the causes and how fight flight kicks into overdrive after triggers are present. I have the knowledge but not the skills.

What are some techniques you use to overcome the feelings of anxiety and lashing out at others when you are triggered?

When i do I feel myself slipping but don't know how to stop my thinking. How to stop my brain from dwelling and experiencing so much negativity.

Also my T wants me to listen to guided mediation. How does this work for others? What would you suggest? Does anyone else feel a little dumb listening to someone talk slowly?

And when I'm in the moment with my mind reeling I can hardly focus on a YouTube video telling me to breath from the belly. This may be my lack of patience or the faith in the practice.

Any feedback or info or suggestions or tools welcome. Thanks to all.

Look up mindfulness stress reduction free course. There is a site that walks you through all the material before you start listening. It really mattered to me that I do that free course first before listening as I was highly triggered by the listening aspect, but my t and I didn't know that before starting. There is some great stuff out there to start the journey but it does need to be explored. The free course explains so much of it that you learn better than watching it on video because you actually get the understanding first of what it's all about. There are a few I can't listen to at all and I honor that.
