Lately I've been having dreams where I'll be in specific scenarios and something in the dream, whether it be someone reaching to touch my shoulder, someone offering a cup of coffee, or giving a weird look, etc., would make me feel like I couldn't breathe. It would skip the initial anxiety feeling and it would go straight to the feeling of being unable to breathe. Finally I'll wake up once I'm really gasping for air in my dream and I wake up gasping for air. Sometimes I'm lucky and I'll calm down right away, but other times I'll go into full on panic mode and I'm shaking or incoherent and/or unsure of my location.
Does this happen to anyone else and what are your suggestions?
The biggest one, I think, is that I'll be preparing for a sleep study soon. I obsessed over the process and what will happen. My friend is planning on joining me, but I'm still nervous. One of the dreams was that I was going through the whole process. I picked up my friend, drove us over, signed papers, got into the room, met the nurse, got set up, but then it got to the point where she was measuring the masks and it was like tunnel vision. I couldn't focus on anything but the nurse trying to put on the mask and how it appeared changed and that's when the feeling of being unable to breathe started.
