I can see your point. The logical part of me knows that what you say is true, in many cases.

I guess I just wonder how many people were in the subway that day that could have stopped that woman from being raped, there was definitely more than one person witnessing it, and even 2 against one is good enough odds for me.

I know that while I may say I would step in to help, and that it is my intention if I do, that if I were to actually witness a violent attack in the street, I would take my own safety into account, and gauge the situation accordingly.

I'm a fairly small woman, and know that my odds against a bigger attacker are slim to none, I've had to find it out the hard way more than once.

I guess I just can't stand the though that several people can stand around as a group watching another human being be attacked and do nothing to help, but as you, and several others have pointed out, it could be a matter of personal safety.

Thanks for your point of view. As a police officer, I am sure your statements are well backed up.

I have to agree with lots of the replies here.........Morally, we HAVE to do what is right.....but we also have to judge the situation and not jump in with our eyes closed.

One on one....I would try to help in a different way (cellular, ring any door, go to closest store...etc...)...in other words...get help ....but when several people are witnessing a terrible act....well, there are no excuses possible not to go and help !!!

Yes, I totally agree that the world we live in as gone crazy....when people tend to "prize" the lives of their pets more then the human race.....when people raise money and awareness, and help causes for everything else but "people", when governments help other countries financially and tend to "forget" about the poverty and hardship in their own country.....

It is a crazy world...and we need to put in all back in prospective !!......Don't get me wrong, I love animals and would not tolerate any act of cruelty towards them, and I am all for helping others less fortunate....but I truly believe that "charity and love begins at home"

I agree. We use to live in a world where the community cared about its citizens. Neighbors helped neighbors.

Of course I am going back a long time, but families cared for their elderly at home. You would help neighbors when disaster hit them.

Now, it is every man for himself and no one wants to "get involed"
