The judicial system can be a mine field. First there is the horror of reporting the crime, surviving the investigation (by then the abuser knows you have outed them), then you have to wait to see if the prosecutor will bring charges, then there is finally the arrest, the bond hearing, the posting of bail, the release, the prep for the trial, the trial and then waiting for the jury to decide. It is a long and arduous process and so many times it falls apart at any point.
But it is all we have and the only justice in this life. My family lost many battles too many times, but finally we won and put him away for good. But the price was very, very high. Not so much elation as relief. Then the sadness of the life sentence we all carry.
