lmao. Now thats funny Tex, when you can make light of your own inabilities.

As longs as you don't have tears in your eyes, hang on thats spelled right.

Lilly resting. It must be so hard having a dogs life.

Reminds me of a famous quote- when the arm heals I think I'm gonna burn it into some wood-

"Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace."

- Milan Kundera

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

- Unknown

Amen!!! My little fart has been my PTSD dog now for sixteen years. Mellowed the anger, took the edge off the hurt. When you're deep in that hole, feeling all alone, you're not, he's right there in the chair next to you. I scratch his head and thank all the powers for that little touch of love.

I would truely lay down what's left of my sorry existance if it meant he would live that much longer.

Thanks, Ziggy, thanks.

You are both right on the money, but He is a She. lol.
When I am laying down feeling depressed she can snuggle up and want a pat. She makes me forget all the problems.
If I ignore her as I walk along she will jump behind my heals as if to say 'Hey, I am down here'.
I talk to her all the time and sometimes Margaret thinks I have a screw loose (well I do). She does not answer, but I feel good for it.
Lilly is Margaret's baby though and deep down she has a lot of care and affection for her.
Apparently little dogs last way longer than big dogs. Well we are going to travel right around Australia in a few years time. At the moment Lilly hates the car. She tries to snuggle up and hide under your arm.
Any ideas??

Any harm in letting her snuggle up and hide under your arm? I mean, most car trips are short and if that gets her through it, then maybe she'll get over it when the car trips are longer. Maybe she equates car trips with going to the vet or something and once she sees that isn't always the case, maybe she'll start to enjoy the trips.

On the practical side, maybe save special treats that she loves but gets only when she gets in the car?

Sounds like a wonderful trip and I'm sure she'd hate to miss it.

I agree use some special treat or a special toy that only stays in the car. start with short trips on the lap gentle petting then work up to the longer ones. Once shes more comfortable maybe a small crate. Let us know how it works for u

It might be just the motion of the car.
I suppose some children hate travelling in the car as babies and cry all the time. Its only after they have been travelling for a while that they get used to it.

If it is a motion thing, do they make a dramamine-like (motion sickness) medicine for dogs? Wouldn't hurt to have in case she doesn't get used to the longer trips.

There is one road here that is like a roller coaster and when I was young, my parents and grandparents used to put the dog and me in the backseat on a blanket because we both got car sick. I'm still not good on that particular road as a passenger but can tear it up as a driver. So maybe let her drive now and then and she'll be okay.....lol. :)
