A dead huhu beetle I came across on the pavement.

Huhu beetles are endemic to NZ, and grow from huhu grubs.
Some people eat the grubs -- either raw or cooked, which are said to taste like peanut butter (@Freida maybe that was why your colleague didn't like PB  ).
I have never tried one to be able to vouch for this :sneaky: .

We also have lollies (candy) that you can buy at a dairy (corner store) that Link Removed.

'Twas a peaceful sunny afternoon, 'til the hawk arrived. That's when three crows started raising hell, trying to annoy him enough to leave.

But he kept hunting and dining, not skipping a beat, flying back to his perch after snatching another menu item, swooshing through the direct path of each of the crows.

They all took off, getting the heck out of his way, raising even more hell, and didn't come back. I got this shot when one of the crows went to the fence post nearest the hawk. The other two were in the black walnut tree to the left of the crow there.

Grateful for these ongoing episodes of what I like to call my "hippie t.v.", as they keep me looking forward to the next day:

A perfect autumn day with lots of clouds, intermittent sun, strong breezes, and colors starting to emerge more and more among the flora....the camera doesn't come close to doing it all justice...

Not the clearest pic, but this little bright yellow spidey took shelter from the strong winds in this curled up leaf (or carefully crafted/woven together leaf, as it appears in the pic)...I tried to get clear shots of it before it ran for cover, but the wind wasn't allowing it....
