As for the lift bridge it goes all the way up for ships. And ships get top priority since ships are charged for using the seaway so time is money for them. For sailboats and pleasure boats they will only lift the bridge every half hour and they only lift it half way.

For the small boats they can travel under the bridge. There is enough space under the bridge for that type of boats. There is also a sidewalk that goes under the bridge as well. I'm glad I have never been under it when they are about to lift the bridge as the warning signal is quite loud.

The fog was unreal today. I went down to the beach for a bit and I couldn't even see the lake. The second pic was taken by the lighthouse which one can barely see. The top pic was down the road a ways looking towards the lake.

No wonder they need a lighthouse there Sandra, what with all that fog!

Well the large lighthouse isn't in use anymore. They have mini ones at the ends of the piers. I think they still use those. I'll look for that pic and load it.

And yes in this area I'm sure the ships sure have their challenges with fog, ice etc.
