I'm Pat and I think I have PTSD. First are there different degrees of PTSD? I would never compare myself to someone coming home from war. My former husband has Huntington's Disease ( a genetic disease which begins with pyschological symptoms, even some psychotic symptoms, all offspring are 50% at risk..It usually causes chorea (movements) there is VERY little treatment and no cure, and it is always fatal.
We divorced when he was in early stage due to his mental problems of which I really am not ready to discuss yet. I've only told my current husband and some of it to my best friend of the real reasons. I can cry at the drop of a hat, I've woken up screaming, I cry for my adult at risk children.
I'm on 2 different antibiotics, have had Malt Lymphoma ( a type of stomach cancer), have migraines and diabetes. Like I said, I in no way compare myself to a soldier or someone who has been tortured sexually or otherwise as a child, but I feel my symptoms are connected to me not knowing this disease was in my former husbands family, then suddenly finding out about it, after we had our children, and his mental problems. We were able to stay close even tho I moved quite far away and he is now in last stages in a nursing home. What do you think?
