One of my top go to's is to change places - get out of bed, head for the sofa or recliner and put on something I have watched 1000 times. I try to recite the lines with the actors. Takes up space in my head and stops ruminating on the nightmare.

Trauma happened in bed so going back is a "ain't gonna happen" after nightmares. So - sofa, recliner, one light on somewhere so its not totally dark...and recite the lines to take my mind off the nightmare and put it on something else......

That's a really great idea, glad you have found something that works xx

Taking a shower really helps improve your mood, might not remove the emotions completely but helps a lot, also changing clothes and bedsheets if needed.

Change of scenery; I find taking a walk, getting some fresh air on the pouch really clears the mind.

Any contact with people or pets you can rely on for a sense of safety or a chat. Being in the presence and connecting with others does wonders.
