One of my top go to's is to change places - get out of bed, head for the sofa or recliner and put on something I have watched 1000 times. I try to recite the lines with the actors. Takes up space in my head and stops ruminating on the nightmare.
Trauma happened in bed so going back is a "ain't gonna happen" after nightmares. So - sofa, recliner, one light on somewhere so its not totally dark...and recite the lines to take my mind off the nightmare and put it on something else......
