There are others as well.
So the good thing is that there are studies being done and that there is new and fresh data. I am very open to this information and believe it. We all live in an excessively violent society, so I can see how this is affecting all of us.
I think because of my background (and why I am on this board) it is difficult for me to not see patriarchal violence as more prevalent out there, but I recognize that is my bias. I also know of men who are abused in their homes and/or have lost everything because of the damage that their spouse has done to them. I can relate to that greatly - as this is what happened to me but genders reversed.
I think part of the problem with this not acknowledging the vulnerability of men in the DV equation is that ultimately - usually - it is known that a man can overpower a woman. The death of women by DV statistics clearly show that. I know for a fact though that death is just the ultimate on the end of the spectrum. I think we all know that psychological abuse and torture can make one yearn for death.
So yes, I am thrilled that research is actually happening that allows us to see the REAL picture behind domestic violence. I appreciate this link and will be researching in the future to apply this information to various committees I hang out with that need to be made aware of these issues. So thank you
@somerandomguy . I do appreciate this information and will absolutely take this to decision makers now that I am aware of it. What they will do with it, i have no idea but it is important.
My sympathies go out to all of us - men and women - who have experienced violence by another. It easily has the potential to be life shattering.
