Practically No Concentration Ability -- Brainwave Optimization?

I think my worst symptom now is the inability to concentrate. I can't even sit through a half-hour TV show or a half inning of a baseball game, which I kind of enjoy. I get completely overwhelmed and dizzy and have to lie down for awhile. I used to be able to read for hours on end, and now I can't read more than a page or two at a time. I mean, I have a Master's in English lit! But that was more than 20 years ago, and the PTSD hit about 12 years ago. Is this a common problem with PTSD? My psychiatrist says it's a combination of anxiety, depression and sleep deprivation, all of which I have plenty of. I am now working part-time for my mom, but I can only work when I get up in the middle of the night and only for a few minutes at a time each night. So I'm still on disability. But it's torture to get through the day when you can't really do anything. I can manage to flip through an issue of the New Yorker to look at the comics without stopping, but that's about it.

A friend of mine sent me something about brainwave optimization. Has anyone had any experience with that or know anything about it?

Well, if you Google "brainwave optimization," you'll probably find the company that originated it. But I am so hesitant to take a company's word for their success. I want something to be FDA (in the US) approved. I'm also really scared of something that is going to mess with my brain. It's been messed with so much already!

Well I went to the website... Umm, I don't know any more now than I did before I went there. They have a lovely sign on the building.

Maybe it's legit, but to me it screams medical quackery. Half expect to see a guy in a lab coat suggesting that we should all sleep on alternating sides throughout the night, to balance the heat of the liver.

I do understand the lack of concentration. I have found it helpful to keep a couple of things going at the same time. I read in front of the tv, I switch between as my mind does. Less frustrating when you don't get lost figuring out what to do.

Its a form of Neurofeedback. No, Neurofeedback is NOT medical quackery, but neither is it the miracle cure it claims to be.

I have had neurofeedback help with my depression, thought rumination, insomnia, migraines......AND hormone balancing, something it is NOT known for doing.

My advice? Find an independent neurofeedback practitioner therapist). If you go to one of those places that is like a factory, you won't get specialized care. You'll be treated by a tech, someone who has NO idea about the psychological side of things.

@Solara Oh. Well thats interesting, I didn't know that. Thank you for correcting my error. I think I am becoming a little too cynical for my own good. I'm beginning to see snake oil salesmen everywhere.
