PTSD and 12 Step Programs

-Did the 12 steps (privately, no group) substituting "depression" in early 90's, and it helped a bit, but wasn't "depression" exactly so didn't really work.
-Have had 2-3 periods in my life where I drank too much, but again AA wouldn't have worked for me because think ptsd was what (should have been) recognized and addressed.
-Go to Al Anon but that "saved my neck"- only trust one person there really, though.Had trouble with one "trolling" but thankfully he left.

Yes, I think it has a lot to do with being victimized and naive. For some reason, through all my horrible experiences with people, I thought it important to maintain my 'innocence.' I thought this was somehow 'maintaining my faith in the goodness of life.' Now, I know it was just stupidity. Tried to look at each new situation from that 'undamaged' viewpoint, it was a way of 'pulling myself back up again.' I'd continue to trust until people showed me otherwise............and boy did they..........

At 43, I don't see myself being with anyone. I'm completely alone and more and more just prefer it that way. I find it very stressful to even be around people any more. I've gone from being a bright light young woman to a recluse. Oh well.

Funny thing is that I'm sort of OK with it. I'm physically chronically ill and having people in my life only creates more work. I can hardly make a meal for myself, let alone anyone else. Why on earth would I want anyone in my life? I'd just have to take care of them. Who needs it............most men want a mommy. Can't do it anymore and don't want to.

Has anyone explored managing their PTSD by following the 12-step program first developed by AA, or any variation of it? Perhaps this is common, but I am a newbie. Wondering what kinds of difficulties/successes this may have yeilded for you.

thanks in advance
