So I just discovered that June is PTSD Awareness month. There is also an awareness day, namely the 27th this month. I want to use this month and day to spread as much awareness as is in my power.
Obviously you guys already are aware. And it can be tough, or painful to talk about PTSD in real life as well as on social media. So I do not expect everyone with PTSD to talk about it or spread the word.
However I found some helpful stuff for anyone who'd like to tell others, or share on social media, under the banner of PTSD Awareness month. This animated clip is short, to the point and fun to watch. I posted it on Facebook with the following message:
"June is PTSD Awareness Month. Not just reserved for veterans, this very stubborn disease can actually occur with any survivor of life threatening experiences.
Funny thing about "life threatening experiences", is that people often don't suspect it could happen to them or the people they love -at any given moment. Bummer, right?
Chances are you know more than one person with this affliction. And yet, PTSD isn't a very discussed disease. Because of this, it can be hard for sufferers to reach out and be understood.
This clip keeps it short and yet gets the point. Watch it, share it, let's spread some awareness!"
Here you can find some banners: http://www.ptsd.va.gov/about/ptsd-awareness/promo_materials_awareness.asp
Hoping you all are making lots of progress and keep fighting, my respect and thoughts are with all of you this month!
