Hi MountainBike,

I'm just wondering if any of you (sufferers) have felt the need to or have isolated yourself from family and friends when you suffered from severe concussion?

My boyfriend was in a hit and run accident a month ago and he just isolated himself from everybody. He has not talked to me at all and is still choosing not to communicate with me. He got bruised ribs, sprained ankle, dislocated shoulder and severe concussion from the injury. I miss him and love him and I just don't understand why he is choosing to be withdrawn from everyone.

I have definitely isolated myself from my family members and friends, almost every friend I had before the incident no longer is in touch with me. As for family members, I am not anywhere near a healthy relationship with them, but over time it has gotten better.

The best thing for you to do, is be there to support him, and be ready when he feels like he's able to return to normal life. A TBI is a very big deal, and it makes you feel alone and like a completely different person. Because people, even doctors, don't know all of what it feels like going through such an incident, it's hard to be able to connect with others. Just give him time, and keep checking in on him to make sure he's not extremely damaged emotionally for too long, which can lead to future issues. He's very lucky to have someone like you that cares for him so much.

Thank you MountainBike!

I feel much better after reading your post. I've been trying extremely hard to understand his situation. He has not been coming home since the accident. I haven't talked or seen him since. He is staying with a friend which I don't know who. He has been going to the hospital for medical stuff though because I check hinmailbox every time i stop by his house which is like once a week. (He lives alone). Sometimes I can't help but take it personal though and it just makes me cry. But the more I get feedback from people who has been in his position, the more I understand and the more willing I am to just wait and be there.

Time is really my enemy here!
