I am a former combat vet. I was with the 25th division and the 4th division in the iron trianle and the mekong delta in 1966-67. I had some problems upon my return stateside for a few years. Mostly nightmares and avoidence of outdoor activities. I seemed to shrugoff most of these symtoms and a awonderfull family and career in comercial fishing in alaska. In the past ten years my ptsd symtoms have returned and seem to increase steadily. I have spent many hours in group therapy with other vets and even returned twice to viet nam. Once in 2001 with a tour group of combat vets and again 2005 with my brother. Anyway I have found small relief from va treatment options although I have made some lifelong freinds there. phil

Hi Phil,

I live with a '66 Nam Vet and I also have PTSD, but not from combat experiences. He relies on me to listen to him, not about combat but just general things. He has several Nam buddies that come over all the time also. All the memories and emotions do not seem to 'know' time. They can come up for years, but if you have someone to listen to you, the memories eventually lose their biting 'charge'.

I have come to highly value the 'listeners', the ones who do so without prejudice.

Nice you are here.

Hi Phil,
