I was in the Air Force from 2001 - 2004. My room mate which I actually got a long with ended up killing 2 people off base and robbing a store. Ever since then, I have struggled with Anxiety and Panic attacks. I was discharge from the military in 2004 and given a General Under Honorable Conditions. This event caused my to lose focus in the military and caused me to mess up a lot at work, so they let me go. At that time, I was young and did not know how to get help for what I was going through. I have been taking Valium and have been treated and diagnosed with PTSD and Anxiety disorder. I know that it came from this event. The question that I have is this, Am i eligible to received VA Disability Benefits for this problem. I have a lot of depression, have anger problems, sleeping problem and some OCD. I hardly think about this event anymore but I know that the event started it in the military. Please give advice if you can. I did not get this from being in combat. I was only deployed to Kyrgyzstan in the military.

You should call the VA. My last psychiatrist went to work for the local VA hospital and he's good friends with my therapist, so through him I found out that since you were in the service, you should be eligible for any services they have. I asked because my two brothers went through a lot of the same stuff I did (growing up in our house was a war zone in itself) and they were both in the service (non-combat), but don't have money for help outside of the VA. Maybe someday, they will seek the help they need through the VA...Good Luck.
