For me, I 'wore' shame and guilt for the 40 years I smoked. I did NEED it for the years of pain that I couldn't face without being numb (birth of severely brain-damaged child) multiple marriages, and physical pain. I believe that my Lord helped me quit at the exactly right time. I was about to become a first-time Grandma, and my Dad passed away about 6 weeks later.

He was my 'rock', and I think I would have been too emotionally overcome if had I still been smoking. The 'victory' of quitting gave me the courage to handle the unthinkable death of my hero. He was a retired minister who was ordained for over 50 years. It made me proud that I had quit before he left this earth for his well-deserved reward.

My doctor did always know about my smoking and was only concerned about my lungs. When I quit, she did increase my pain meds, as marijuana does have analgesic properties.

Great topic! I believe it should be available, like alcohol, to over people aged 21 and up. Not everyone can afford traditional pain control. Doctors & prescriptions. Pot does NOT make people drive the wrong way down highways like alcohol does. Smokers are usually at home 'kicking back' and 'rolling'.
