Fake Name

New Here
Veterans only? Obviously anyone can sign up here and pretend to be a combat veteran. Maybe incorporate a military e-mail requirement?

:ninja:

I think his name "fake" rather appropriate. Probably extends to his position in the human race as well. Gosh. he could be a genuine fake.

Even if he is a fake..... his comment does have some validity to it. I would like to come here and talk comfortably. I don't want just anyone in here. I would like to know, with some assurance, that I am only talking to other military or former military.

And how would you propose any online community do that? Request their military records for an online registration? Would you send me your military records to prove who you are, for the sake of a forum registration? I know I wouldn't.

The wanker (troll) who posted the first post, is a half arsed twit. What military email for a veteran who is discharged? That is just an example. Any soldier would know such a thing doesn't exist, because the moment you're discharged the military close email and access for security. There are always tells.

You must be realistic. There will always be wankers online. It is the web... you do the same here as you would in the military... you pepper them with questions. People out themselves eventually... through nothing other than stupidity. You aren't dumb for talking with a fake, it isn't your fault their an idiot and lying. They're the liar, not any other member who does the right thing by talking with them on the premise of one vet to another.

As I said in your introduction, truely closing off the community would make it that those in need would not find the help. Anonimity comes from not using specific details that would identify you, such as your picture. I know at first I was really shaken when the idiots invaded, but I have learned to protect myself by keeping private details confined to the members only area, or to private messages. You can send messages to any member on here, or group of members. So if the stuff you want to discuss is a bit sensitive, try limiting access by keeping it to private places.

Other than the "stolen valor" bunch, I don't understand what the lure would be to the average civilian dunce, anyway. We speak in such intangible concepts, so far removed from anything they've experienced, or ever will experience, that they would soon get bored and move on.

Then you have the trolls. Trolls are the sewer rats of the internet. You could put retina recognition cameras on all our computers and the little buggers would defeat it and get in. Their entire reason for existance is to create a disturbance. Once done, they move on.

Tanker, maybe I'm just in a shitty mood or something this morning, but I really don't think the public gives a damn about us or what we have to say. I think they are so centered on Mickey D's and their 21 inch chrome spinners and their 103 inch flat screens that we get lost in the clutter.

So say what you have to say, the people on this site, the one's that really count, know and understand.

Trolls and spammers seek attention, not much else.

This is the society that's been created by 'instant' communications and instant gradification. People who have nothing worthwhile to say have been given a platform to do it. It's why things like youtube are so wildly popular. The sad thing in regard to just youtube, is that there is a wealth of info beyond the idiots driving a bike into a tree and everyone thinking that's what passes for humor.

I sometimes feel like I've been 'away' somewhere when all this stuff happened. Now I'm plunked down into a world where everyone walks around looking at their phones. I thought technology was meant to 'bring' people together not separate them even more. I think I've just lived too long. I'm off on the next heighliner to Arakis.

The one that blows me away is those damn Bluetooth thingys. I'll be standing somewhere and all of a sudden the guy behinds just starts talking up a storm behind me, well, I turn around and ask him what he said and he's waving me off talking a blue streak up on his Bluetooth.

Hell, when I was a kid, they locked people up for talking to themselves. (That's why I whisper to myself. If people ask me what I'm saying, I just say the Lord's prayer. They then think that I'm just a religious nut, not a regular one!).
