Hiiii,
About 2/3 months ago I stopped taking my meds (10mg aripriprazole, 45mg mirtazpine and whatever the highest dose of valium is PRN) because they didn't really do a lot except valium, valium reduced anxiety but in doing so took away my early warning signs for flashbacks which wasn't helpful. I am a pretty anti-meds kinda gal (my pdoc is confused by this bc most 17 year old LOVE meds lol) but anyway I've been asked by various professionals to do some research and tell them them my views. So here I am.

Meds I've tried with either little/no effect, annoying side effects or some other reason to be taken off it:
Olanzopine 20mg (struggled with the weight gain of this)
Quetiapine/seroquel 800mg (800mg is ridiculous considering I weigh like 90lbs and I was on the dose for 2 years?!)
Levomepromazine 150mg (they switched this to my current med because apparently its used to treat disorders that I dont have lol)
Ariprazole 10mg (literally a tic tac)
Sertraline 200mg
Mirtazpine 45mg
Flueoxatine 60mg
Lorazapam PRN
Valium/diazepam PRN
Clonazapm 1.5mg
Respiradone (cant remember the dose)
Melatonin 6mg lol
Zoplicone for like 2 weeks?

Wow I only just realised quite how many meds I've tried now ahhh. I'm very reluctant to try other SSRI's and atypical anti-depressants as I haven't found one that's worked very well at all.

My main symptoms are those of PTSD that I know theres no magic pill for -
Flashbacks (visual, somatic and emotional)
Derealisation/depersonalisation
Nightmares/terrors and occasionally sleep paralysis
Easily startled
Hypervigilence although I am a more dissociated person then anything
Emotional dysregulation
Depression (kind of? I'm diagnosed with MDD but I dont think I agree with it)
Avoidance of triggers and/or people

I'm just looking for recommendations really, I've looked into prozasin which looks pretty good so I'm thinking of proposing it. Other than that though I haven't got a clue lol.

Prazosin is good for nightmares. I recommend titrating up slowly, especially if you have low blood pressure. It kinda/sorta helped me, but dropped my blood pressure so low that I’d wake up and walk around like I was drunk.

I’m not sure what meds you’ve taken as you used generic names instead of trade names. (And I’ve been on a ton over the years.)

I'm going to ask in my ward round today (:)

Ohhhh okay I'll try and translate it all (these are the names all the CAMHS pdocs use in the UK aha)
Meds I've tried with either little/no effect, annoying side effects or some other reason to be taken off of it:
Zyprexa 20mg (struggled with the weight gain of this)
seroquel 800mg (800mg is ridiculous considering I weigh like 90lbs and I was on the dose for 2 years?! And I came off it cold Turkey... bad idea)
Methotrimeprazine 150mg (they switched this to my current med because apparently its used to treat disorders that I dont have lol)
Ability 10mg (literally a tic tac)
Zoloft 200mg
Remeron 45mg
Prozac 60mg (made me suicidal)
Ativan PRN
Valium PRN
Klonopin 1.5mg
Respiradol (cant remember the dose)
Melatonin 6mg lol
Zimovane for like 2 weeks?

I'm just reading this thread now and wondering what was the result.

Like you, I have a similiar long list of failed medications (over a 35yr history). I end up with every side effect or the med stops working.

At this point I would like to try CBD oil without THC but want to do it under guidance. There are too many brands out there and I have no clue on dosage.

I hope you see this and am curious about your resolution.

I've been on Lexapro for 5 months now and it helps me but I wonder how much of it is placebo. It takes the edge off of what I already feel so I can actually work through my emotional issues without being overwhelmed by them. EMDR doesn't send me into a downward spiral. I can work through flashbacks and I'm learning to sit with the negative emotions I feel instead of assuming they're automatically bad and numbing.
Basically, my personal opinion is that for most people psych meds are the "magic potion" you'd get from a midwife or the village healer in the past.
Maybe you're too strong minded to be automatically convinced of a medicine's efficacy. So if you're "treatment resistant" when it comes to meds maybe you can find another way of getting your subconscious to process and/or eliminate symptoms.
I personally can't wait to come off meds for ethical and spiritual reasons but for now it's fine. I consider it a tool. It works the way healing crystals, going to Mass, etc. works for someone else.
BTW praozin didn't do anything for me except make me foggy, fatigued, and gave me massive headaches probably because it's really for lowering blood pressure.

Just trying to get my head around this: your pdoc has asked you, a 17 y-o (which means you don’t have a degree in medicine, pharmacology, or biochemistry) to “do some research” and, what, suggest a medication you’d like to try????

Wtf???????

Are you sure that’s specifically what they asked you to do? For example, did they ask you to suggest a specific medication you’d like to try, or to consider your attitude to medication more generally, and what you would/wouldn’t tolerate or would/wouldn’t consider trying...

Because, a doctor asking a 17 year old to choose their own medication? Is about as dangerous and unprofessional as it gets...

SSRIs don’t do anything for me, but bupropion/Wellbutrin has been so helpful for so many reasons. I won’t really tolerate side effects long term so there’s been a lot I’ve tried and a lot I haven’t tried. I think if you find something that works, impressions and opinions on medication may change.
