Welcome to the site
I was given Respiridone after I went through a series of traumatic events and was seriously ill. I had been diagnosed with PTSD years before but not treated for events that occured over a six year period. My PTSD symptoms were not recognised for what they were and that I had a psychotic breakdown, I think because of it. I had this psychosis for a couple of years or so before it got treated.
The Rispiridone was helpful. I took it over a period of about three months. The problem was at the time Id had a wrong diagnosis and with that, my prescription and no proper support that made me more ill in a different way. My PTSD went out of control. Panic attack, after panic attack, around the clock and so I had to go and stay with someone for weeks before I felt well enough to return home.
What I want to say is sometimes it is so frightening taking some meds, especially when they are not very well understood. Anti-psychotics are not at the moment; perhaps it is good to try a small dose first to see how you get on.
BUT they are also used as a chemical cosh medication. There are precautions needed as you need to be able to take care of your personal needs that you have in your life. There is also a big problem if you have an illnes that relates ot heart, stroke issues and muscle, soft tissue problems as they can worsen on these meds.
I think being practicle and getting a note book for a side effect and symtoms diary for a few weeks is a good idea for any new or changing of meds and also to note mood and any change in physical problems too. I do this and I find it helpful to look back on to see what is really going on with this stuff. After all we PTSD sufferers can't always count on what goes in in our own minds all of the time.

Sorry if there are any smelling pistakes or any thing like it as I haven`t slept all night and I feel strangely more awake and relaxed now than I did the whole of yesterday. Or is that the meds I took - tramadol, more tramadol, stilnoct, codydromol and then I stopped before I over did it and had to sit out the pain.
