Rules Warning System

There is now a rules warning system in place. Whilst within its infancy and still being finalised by staff, it will be used from here forward to notify all members of issues.

It removes ambiguity and personal bias from any staff members mood on a given day or towards a given member. Staff do not create custom warnings, they are all default set and agreed upon by staff.

As new issues arise, more will no doubt be added. Right now, the basic rules are fairly covered.

Only an administrator will issue custom warnings, which would be rare.

A member would receive a PC about the rules violation, as well as a public notice / content edited / deleted being taken to the content.

These are stored on the members profile for staff to quickly see all history.

Basically, staff no longer really decide to ban members, instead, members decide to ban themselves. Don't comply with the rules, warnings are given, points addup, you automatically ban yourself from posting.

The temporary ban has now been improved, so that instead of locking members out of the forum completely, members can still read all parts of the forum, including reading PC's, however; all posting access is removed during the temp ban period.

Members can still then also access live chat... however, if you got all disgruntled or such and took your rampage into the chat, then you will get banned from that as well.

Exact details of the system and messages will get posted to members for their input once staff have finalised the bulk of the system settings.

I see your reasoning KP but my take on it is that so members can feel that they are all treated fairly and equally as sometimes, if one member of staff corrects one member on numerous occasions, they tend to then think it is personal when it is not. This way we can only be seen to be making forum decisions and not personal ones (even though we at all times have and continue not to do so).

It's also like making the 'warning' equal as where one moderator may ban suicidal posting for 24 hours another may think 48 hours is more appropriate. Now that decision is made based upon a set of rules and not our opinion. That being said, if someone is temp banned under the new system for suicidal posting and comes back and continues to do so the system will then cater for them for a longer period by implementation of another warning.

The final thing I see is that the new system makes the member responsible for their status as they are warned by the system and know where they stand so if they end up with a temp ban it is then due to their decisions of ignoring the warning and accumulating points and not deemed to just be a staff member's decision.

We did used to get a few members who had that "She picking on me because" attitude. No one was picked on, but when a member made the same mistakes "over and over again", it was up to us to remind them "over and over again" about it.

Now we can remind them, without the "Picking on me" statements.

I have now added the following to all PC's sent via the warning system to curb the question, "what the hell is this about?"

There is an announcement about what the warning system is, if in doubt, view [DLMURL="https://www.ptsdforum.org/c/threads/rules-warning-system.21846/"]Rules Warning System[/DLMURL].
