Rules Warning System Discussion

In my opinion as a newer member I feel this is extremely well done and very forgiving considering what some moderator's have dealt with. Using the reference of punctuation and "Lets eat, Grandma" vs "Lets eat Grandma" we should all abide by the general rule of "Respect use it or lose it". Or do unto others etc, the 5 second rule; yes I am an old lady and these rules will only make us better communicator's.

I don't have a problem with the rules, it's just that it seems to not be taken into consideration that even if we read the rules, I personally have trouble remembering what I read, and don't seem to be able to hold onto the information very long, and when words like 'warning' are sent to me, as though I am in trouble...again, it can trigger old stuff for me, which makes it hard for me to not respond in a way that isn't anti-authoritarian. It FEELS like an attack, whether or not it is meant that way.

Even the word 'alert' when I receive a 'like' from someone, can trigger some sort of 'danger' sense in my brain. An alert is bringing your attention to something that is a threat I thought...not someone telling you they like your comment.

I can handle bluntness in person, but online it really does have an attacking quality to it, which is unfortunate, as I realise everyone has their own style of communicating.

I can see that it would be frustrating for mods to have to continually reinforce these rules to people, and I hope there is some understanding there as to why this is necessary. I don't think most people defy the rules deliberately here, they just simply cannot concentrate long enough for the rules to really soak in.

Possibly reading the rules once a week could help. JMHO the way the brain functions to work through therapy is by refreshing it. Eventually it will hold and sink in. The alerts are just like FB, I asked for pink ones. They never even responded! One can set how the alerts show in here.

I think part of the issue with any communication online if you can't hear a tone of voice or see their body language/facial expression to be able to really tell where they are coming from. I just try to always give the benefit of the doubt and assume they mean well. I have yet to see anyone on this forum be hurtful or attacking. There have been times I have read something on this site and been really hurt at first, then I come back, re-read it and realize I mis-read a word or something. Communicating via text is hard sometimes :)

Thanks Whitney, I wasn't aware this could be done. I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world. Computers piss me off on a regular occasion.

Yes, I'm aware that tone and lack of voice are major reasons for this.

I had to continually remind people from another forum about just that when I kept getting accused of attacking them because I was blunt a lot. Funny thing was, THEY kept telling me I was the one who needed to be more courteous and give THEM the benefit of the doubt. Projection online is just as infuriating as projection in real life.

I think I have alot of points accumulated. I am pc illiterate and made many mistakes. I did not know what I was doing wrong, when I first signed up. I got temporarily banned for 7 days. Is there any way to find out how many points I have accumulated against me?

Is there anyway to get a clean slate and start over? Like once a year the slate gets wiped off. Just curious. I love this site and use it alot. I appreciate being a member. I do not know how to do the membership subscription, if I did I would subscribe. Thanks for listening.

Right now gizmo, you have no points outstanding, they have all expired, which they do after a certain time.

To check, just click on your name and a pop up box will appear. Look at the middle and you will see in grey, "Warning points", next to which is your total points in white, which now stand at zero.

So you now have what you call a "Clean slate".

Would it be possible to put the information about the warning, points, their expiration, etc into the forum rules or somewhere where people can find all of the information on one place? This post is great, but the information is a bit scattered and hard to find.

I know myself, and other members, are sometimes hesitant to ask these sorts of questions because they fear will appear stupid. I had always wondered about the warnings and when/if I would be banned, it would just be nice if all of this was put together in some place easy to find :) ...and if it is already, my apologies, I wasn't able to find it.

Thanks!

Thanks Amethist, I am happy to know I have a clean slate. I so want to keep it this way. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!
